• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I must admit I didn't factor in the stress levels involved in rolling the scraps. :)

It's so easy to simply unravel the cigar and reroll it properly. $40 buys two lbs of leaf.

Having a mindset that you're "knowingly going to like them less" would be difficult to overcome. That's what's so great about rolling your own cigars. You can make whatever you want however you want it to be.

That's certainly your decision to make but what if you could make as good a cigar in the same amount of time or even faster? In fact, I can roll scrap cigars faster than long leaf since the tobacco is ready to roll. Just reach in grab a handful and roll it up. Easy breezy. I'm fully aware that...

    Adventures in home rolling

I confess that I have a tendency to use common sense over tradition.(except in golf where there are rules vs. myth) Just because something has always been done a certain way doesn't make it a good idea. Tradition...

    Adventures in home rolling

The tobacco scraps are just as flavorful as the long filler.(after all it is the same tobacco) If rolled improperly the draw can be problematic (too tight usually). I case the scraps so there not too dry and roll the cigar 'free hand' without using a mold. This way you can feel the right amount...

    Leaf Deals

They're located in Clifton N.J. Is this where the leaf ships out from? He's involved in a realty business as well. It doesn't appear they're ready to do business yet. There's no information about the leaf on the web site. I'm curious to hear if they respond to orders and wish you guys good...

I have a 65" 4k TV and the detail is excellent. You can see the leaf being stretched and removing the vein is very clear what you did. BTW... the detail is also excellent on my 1080P monitor. The trick to seeing the detail close up is going full screen.

You would admire his son also. Last year he was 'tending the store' at 12 years old. He was in charge. He brought me into the humidor and gave a tour. I selected my cigars and then requested a Cuban espresso from the coffee bar in the back. He made my espresso perfectly and as he went to take my...

    What's Your Challenge?

Here's my current direction. I pull a vacuum a half a dozen times on new, fresh rolled cigars to get them all to the same level of dryness and then wait for an evening of around 70% RH and fill them with new the new moisture level. Using a hygrometer I may have to do this several times before...

    Cigar Molds Thread

You don't need a tuck cutter. It doesn't make a better cigar. It's only function is to make every cigar the exact same length. That's it. In a high production factory it's important and speeds the process for the professional. Unless you have a need to make all your cigars the same length your...

I believe that Nub is infused with a flavoring. Possibly espresso/vanilla combo? Only the people at Nub know the formula.

Interesting how he says they sell the tobacco NOT fermented to the government and they use chemicals. He uses a natural 'mojito' method.

I vote NO PG in your mojo. Remember, we aren't going to 'vaporize' the pg so it's safe as tested... instead cigars are going to burned at much higher temperatures. Both, PG and VG are used as a humectant and they both carry the flavors. VG is like sweet sugar water whereas PG has a funny...

Interesting. Do you inhale the cigar smoke sometimes? Some people (I think you said you were) allergic to PG and can have an adverse reaction. This alone is a good reason to leave the PG out of the formula. It sounds like you researched it. The cream flavored (custard note) ones contain...

In Bentleys book the reason for the alcohol is to 'cut' the oils in the flavoring and act as a preservative to the bottled juice. The flavoring would come mostly from the vanilla (or in his case he used almond extract). The use of glycerin was extremely important as it "carries the flavors"...
