• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Xikar Boveda Packs

I've always wondered that if the Boveda adjusts for temperature, what exactly does that mean. If it is a 65% Boveda and the temperature is 70 F and then the temp drops to 65 F does the Boveda keep it at 65% RH relative to the new temperature, which would be much wetter than at 70 F. The amount...

I emailed a guy peddling Fauxhibas on Craigslist

It's amusing that he shows a photo of the government seal lying loose inside the box. If they were real the seal would be on the box. I have been going to Cuba for many years and have seen hundreds of fake Cohibas and the sellers never bother to attached the across the corner of the box. It's...

    Xikar Boveda Packs

I'm a bit of a skeptic. While the manufacturers say their products are perfect, I think the accuracy is more likely plus or minus 2%. Also remember the hygrometers read in 1% increments. So if the RH was 65.5 then it may read 65 or it may read 66. There is a 1% difference right there and...

Let's play "Real or Fake" (Davidoff edition)

Thanks for playing. I assumed it was a fake but I wasn't familiar with the brand details so rather than study it too hard I thought I'd post it to see what came up. I appreciate the help. Davidoff does make a "Natural" in the Millennium Series. Here are the main errors in the cigar as I...

Let's play "Real or Fake" (Davidoff edition)

A friend was in the Dominican Republic and bought this for me in a cigar shop. He is not likely to spend more than $10 on a cigar so I have my doubts. I can spot a fake CC no problem but I have no experience with Davidoff. I have never even tried one. What do you think ? [/IMG]

    Seasoning question

I agree that if the cigars and cigar boxes (if any) are at the correct RH level then there is no problem. But I am concerned about the shelves that were mentioned. A wood shelf that is dry will suck up a lot of moisture from the air and your media (beads, KL, Boveda) will not be able to keep...

    Seasoning question

Maybe I misunderstood but if it's a new winador then there is nothing in it to absorb moisture so the starting RH should be the same as your room air. If you put in sponges it will raise the RH fast. It's easy to control when it is a closed environment and there is no wood or cigars to deal...

Greetings from The Great White North

Welcome from a small town near Ottawa. (Go Sens Go) .... Sorry about the Leafs. We Canucks need to stick together and share their finds on reasonably priced cigars.

    New member!

Welcome my friend. You seem to have embraced the cigar culture based on the pictures of you at some cigar events. Having family members to enjoy a cigar with is great. I hope to see you active on this forum.

    Cigar Band Art

Those pieces are amazing. I feel embarrassed to post my little project in this thread. I considered starting a new thread just so I wouldn't be in the company of "real" art. Anyway, I cut out a cigar band shape and stuck some bands on it and I like it. I put it on the wall in my office above...

    freezing and fumigating ??

OK, maybe now I've got it. When you originally said "Non-Cuban production" I thought you were referring to CC's made for export rather than for domestic consumption. Thanks for setting me straight. So all CC's are frozen and all NC's are fumigated and frozen. That makes sense but I still...

    freezing and fumigating ??

OK, so what I have read about CC's being fumigated and frozen has been confirmed by Cigar Surgeon. I guess that's one of the advantages of being part of a huge organization like Habanos S.A. I still find it strange that nobody has any information on NC manufacturers. I would think it would be a...

    freezing and fumigating ??

Why don't you freeze the CC's ? DO you know that the retailer does?

    freezing and fumigating ??

I've always been told that beetles are not a problem if the temperature is kept below 70 ...... but I won't risk it. I have too much money invested in my inventory. What if for some reason the temperature gets too high for a few days. It's not like I can go back in time and correct it. I've...

    freezing and fumigating ??

I've read that tobacco beetles are very common in the fields. They thrive in tobacco growing areas as you would expect. If producers or manufacturers didn't do something about the problem I think we would see beetles much more often then we do. If you Google the subject you will find many...

    freezing and fumigating ??

I have watched countless videos on cigar production from many of the major manufacturers. One thing they almost never mention is if they freeze or fumigate to remove the risk of beetles. I have often read the Habanos S.A. does this to all their cigars and I'm sure other do as well. My...

    Alec Bradley It's a Girl

I don't know but spitting out bits is a definite sign of mixed filler. Alex Bradley does make some "Cuban Sandwich" cigars. I just had a Tatuaje Series P. It was very nice and very inexpensive. I did't know it was mixed filler and I had the same issue of spitting bits. I now have to decide...

FX Smith & Sons cigar making machine

... and if you thought the machine was interesting, take a look at their prices. A box of 50 is less than $1 per stick. I had no idea you could buy machine-made cigars, 46-50 rg, for under a buck a piece in the U.S. You certainly can't do that here in Canada.
