• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Davidoff cigars, so you smoke them?

I love Davidoff, esp. the Puro D'or. They're not the most tasty stick, especially at their price point. But they are, by far, the most consistent cigar I've ever smoked. I know exactly what to expect when I have one and have not been disappointed. I've never had a burn issue or an issue with...

    Camera suggestions

Since it's for a 12 year old, I would suggest a point and shoot and an eye-fi card. Eye-Fi cards are memory cards that have a wi-fi chip built in and can send her prictures directly to her phone and/or upload them to her social media. You can get a 16gb eye-fi online for under $40. As far as...

    What do you shoot with?

Some of their video camera are just unreal!!! I used to work for them on the wireless mobile side as a product rep and the store gave me a price on the A65 that I just couldn't turn down. Would love to get the A99 eventually.

    What do you shoot with?

Well, I lied. My next addition ended up being a Sony 35mm F/1.8. It'll be here in a few days.

    What do you shoot with?

Sony 70-200 f/28 Sony 18-135 f/3.5 Sony 55-300 F/4.5 Sony 18-70 f/3.5 The next addition will be a 24-70 f/2.8 or thereabouts for concert photography. Currently I use the 18-135 for that but need a flash which tends to piss off some of the acts even though I put my hand in front of it as much...

    What do you shoot with?

I rented one of those when I went down to the Dover race to shoot for the track and fell in love with it! Pictures were clear and even race cars going 180 were so clear that you could read "Goodyear Eagle" on them and no blur whatsoever. Two weeks later, I went and bought one (with the wife's...

    NUB cigars

If I remember correctly, it was the middle third that was the inspiration for Sam to create the Nub. Still thought, I'd rather have it had been a corona size smoke than an oversized stub. I do like them but don't smoke them much because I prefer a smaller RG.

Bought my wife a camera for Christmas

Picasa will most definitely do the job for most people. But sometimes the editing bug bites hard and you find yourself wanting more flexibility and control. Happened to me. Now I find myself wanting plug-ins for LR.

Bought my wife a camera for Christmas

I have to disagree with it too. When using the auto settings, you are relying on the camera to make decisions based upon what it's programmed to do. It's been my experience that it more often than not, gets it wrong...especially when you start to edit your photos and bringing out details in...

Bought my wife a camera for Christmas

My pleasure. I'd also recommend the following lenses: an 18-135 lens a 24-70 F2.8 Constant (meaning the aperture doesn't change as you zoom in and out) Later on, if she really get bitten by the shutter bug, a 70-200 F2.8 (save up for that one though...about $2,000) Oh yeah, don't skimp on...

Bought my wife a camera for Christmas

Honestly, I'd start out with Picasa. It's free and will give you a good understanding of the basics of photo editing. Then move on to Lightroom or Photoshop depending on how in-depth you want to get into. Photoshop is very powerful but also comes with a $700 price tag. Lightroom is what most...

I haven't, no. But I'd be interested in seeing your work. I can put you in contact with someone that does know a thing or two about film editing if you like. Send me a PM with your FB name.

    Camera Recommendation

I'd second what Aroma said. You want to make sure you have a decent sensor as well since that's what does most of the work. Most P&S, as mentioned earlier, don't function well in lower light. You can do things like using a positive EV setting or a higher ISO. Warning though....higher ISOs...
