Gotta be careful out there.

14-year-old girl sues MySpace.com, alleging sexual assault By The Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas – A 14-year-old girl who says she was sexually assaulted by another user of MySpace.com sued the social networking Web site Monday, claiming it does not take sufficient steps to protect underage members.
The girl says a 19-year-old man lied in his profile about being a senior on a football team to gain her trust and phone number.
Pete Solis was arrested in May on a charge of sexual assault of a child. He could not immediately be reached Monday evening.
The suit alleges that MySpace has "absolutely no meaningful protections or security measures to protect underage users."
"(MySpace) has got to take this seriously," said attorney Carl Barry, who is representing the girl and her mother. The suit seeks $30 million.
In a statement, MySpace said it is committed to the safety of its members.
"We take aggressive measures to protect our members," said Hemanshu Nigam, chief security officer. "Ultimately, Internet safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage everyone on the Internet to engage in smart Web practices and have open family dialogue about how to apply offline lessons in the online world."

This type of thing is as idiotic as fat people suing McDonalds for "causing their weight problems". People just don't want to take responsibility for their actions anymore. It's always someone else's fault when their ignorance, gullibility or stupidity causes problems. :argh:

The issue is not only related to myspace.... it all started with AOL chatrooms and has evolved into a forum such as myspace.... Parents need to watch what the hell their kids are freaking doing online...

Like the a$$wipes who sue bars under "dram shop" laws for overserving them after they crash into a tree......People don't want to take any responsibility for their own stupidity.

People just don't take responsibility anymore. Bottom line. They look for someone else to pay for their mistakes. Usually paying monetarily.

IMO, this is out of MySpace's hands. There's no way they can confirm any age of anyone on that site. Rediculous lawsuit is what it is! :stickbeat

I blame the parents. get involved in your kids life, don't let the internet be the baby sitter.

end game point...

Letting a child do as they please on the internet is the same as letting them loose in the ghetto for hours on end to rummage around alleys. The risks and dangers that they are exposed to are not exactly the same, but in the end they are just as vulnerable.

Ahh, yeah... inbred half wits these ones. These are the same people that expect the schools to "raise" their kids. They apply or contribute zero parenting in the raising of their own kids.

Personally I think it is a "pay us off to shutup" lawsuit. They'll settle just to go away.

A sad commentary on our society. We went from the TV as a baby sitter to the PC as a babysitter. The problem is actions taken from the wrong people on a PC can lead to direct peril.
