Well thanks to Russ I enjoyed my first bowl. Found some English chaps on the YouTube for some tips. Enjoyed it quite a bit! I read on here that this place is a slippery slope nope it's a full on greased rock!! Thanks again Russ AKA Newman!!

I just enjoyed my first bowl last night also. I was enjoyable, and I think I am going to like this new hobby, but I did have some difficulty packing it. I read online about the 3 layer packing method but I think I am just scared of packing it too tight on the first layer.
From my limited learning, the first layer I only use gravity on a tamp to do the work...granted my tamp is a 7.62 brass casing right now and has a little weight to it...

It gets easier with time trial and error, YouTube helps a little too!
