  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Just curious if anyone else other than me was interested in the Peterson 2012 Father's Day pipe and was disappointed that they will not be sold in the US. I talked to a few of the Peterson retailers in the states and they all basically said your out of luck you can't get one this year so I talked directly to Peterson I discovered that it is a by request only from the distributors and won't be sold in the US, but since it wasn't going to be sold in the US I could order one directly from them they had a couple shapes made that would ship but I was able to pick my own classic shape and custom order it only downside is I had to wait 12-16 weeks a little late for Father's day this year but still a cool addition to my collection. If any fellow BOTLs have questions about it I will tell you how to contact them or answer as best as I can!

I hadn't heard about that, but just looked them up online. Those are some sharp looking pipes. 12-16 weeks, wow, that's a little harsh on the wait, lol. Awesome that you're able to still get them though.

Yea they were cheaper direct from Peterson including insured shipping across the pond than you could buy them in the states last year retail. If you wanted an 80s or a 69 shape they had a couple of those ready to ship with the fishtail stems but if you wanted a custom shape then you had to wait 12-16 weeks. I ordered mine about 4 weeks ago so only 8-12 more weeks to wait lol!

The person I talked to was John at Peterson their contact is shop@peterson.ie and they are only 57 euro which includes registered post which isn't too bad and apparently you can buy direct from them but only if it isn't a pipe or product available in US market.

The price was 45 euro and 12 euro for registered post for a total of 57 euro but that really isn't too terribly bad for a not "off the shelf" pipe, I won't tell you which shape I ordered so hopefully I can have 1 of 1 made in 2012 that shape lol, but if you look up their classic shape chart you should be able to order one in any of those shapes! I have the St. Patty's Day 68 and it's a real high quality pipe!

Lol, I don't blame you there. At the very least, you will probably be the only person in the country with that shape.

Greetings Greetings fellow brothers!

I am wanting to order one of the Father's Day pipes as well. I contacted John but he said the pipes were only available in 4 shapes. Not even the shapes shown on Peterson's website.

How were you able to order a different shape? He told me only the 4 shapes he listed were available for US orders.

Thanks in advance!

Wow that's new when I talked to Peterson I originally talked to Miss Angela Fortune email angela@peterson.ie and she told me they could produce one for me shape to be confirmed by me and gave me the prices and told me to contact the shop where I talked to John at the shop@peterson.ie and he said they had 69 and 80s in stock but didn't only limit me to four shapes he said I could pick any of the classic shapes but seemed like he was pushing the ones in stock pretty hard because he kept reminding me the 2 shapes could ship right away. I am curious which four shapes he limited you to for US orders? He just told me a particular shape would be a wait of 12-16 weeks and they could only sale me shapes or pipes not sold to the US or possibly they changed their minds about distributing to the US I will have to check on the status of mine now I last talked to John on May 24th inquiring about the summertime tobacco, the pipe of the year and the iceberg collection and he said my order was at the factory and the pipe of the year and summertime tobacco would be out in a few weeks to their shop and they did not have an ETA for the iceberg collection of pipes which are pretty sharp if you have not seen them yet. Plus I think it's kind of funny to have an "Iceberg pipe" that is heralded with the titanic on it! You can try to contact Miss Fortune (that's kinda funny too I know) and get more details on the father's day pipes!

Thanks for the additional information! Do you care if I drop your name when talking to Miss Fortune

What's your first name, if you don't mind my asking?

Well I am not sure she knows me personally I only talked to her once I originally just emailed Peterson corporate with my question and she is the one that responded from their main office so she is gonna be like who? My email to them was "I am interested in buying a Father's Day 2012 pipe I was informed they will not be sold in the US! Is there any online retailer I can order one from? or can I order one directly from Peterson? Also, how much would they cost and which shapes can I get them in?" her reply was "Dear Sir, As the fathers day 2012 edition is not available in the US this year, you may purchase by mail order directly from our retail outlet in Dublin shop@peterson.ie The fathers day 2012 is not available "off the shelf" as they are manufactured only according to the orders received from our Distributors. However we can produce a Father's Day pipe for you (shape to be confirmed by you) the current lead time is circa 8 weeks to 12 weeks. The retail price is 45 euro plus registered post to the USA of 12 euro = 57 euro in total note this offer does not apply to pipes that are already available in the US market Thank you for your support, it is much appreciated Kind Regards, Angela Fortune" Then I contacted John at the Dublin retail outlet and told him which shape I wanted which is the 264 shape (not sure if that was one of the four choices he gave you maybe I just got lucky, but it wasn't one of the ones on their website for the fathers day 2012. He really pushed the ones in stock and told me the wait time was 12-16 weeks which was different than what Miss Fortune told me but I was willing to wait and I told him that and he again told me he could ship the 80s or 69 right away and I had to say no I want to get a (insert shape number here) if possible so he informed me he would check with the factory if it was possible the following morning he emailed me saying it was on order and told me to send my payment info so he could complete the order. I didn't really have any problems with them. And my name is Dan but not sure if that will help. Just hope you didn't say "Hey John, my IRA brotha whats up let me get one of those father's day pipes from ya!" :assaultri lol

Post pics of it when it comes in though, I really want to see what it looks like! :)

Saw this and thought I would give an update...

I emailed back and forth with John in the Peterson Shop for a few days and I am sure he was getting very annoyed with me as I kept asking why I wasn't able to order a different shape, or at least one of the shapes shown on the webpage. The ones he was offering me varied, and many were not on the Peterson page as part of the Father's Day line. I am still not sure why some were available and others weren't if they were indeed custom orders. Seems like if it was a custom order they could make one. Apparently it was limited to the bowls they currently had available in that finish or something.

Anyway, still not understanding, I was thoroughly dejected as I REALLY had my heart set on a 999. My son is due in July and this pipe will be put up until my first "official" Father's Day in 2013. It will be smoked only on his birthday and Father's Day, set aside until his first Father's Day, and I will pass it along to him. As I said, I REALLY had my heart set on a 999, but was going to order another shape just so I could have one.

John emailed me one morning that he had sent out a search crew and they found a 999 in the factory, the last and final one for 2012. To say I was ecstatic would be an understatement. I was through the roof! I already have my shipping information and am waiting patiently for this awesome new family piece to arrive.

This goes to show the level of Peterson customer service. John put up with me for several days and went WAY out of his way to help me out. I have always been a Peterson guy, but my loyalty has been secured because of this transaction.

That's awesome man sounds like a great plan congrats on the son I am sure the 999 will be a tradition you will both enjoy and a quality pipe that should last generations hopefully. I am glad they were able to help you out, I am surprised John didn't get frustrated with all of my random questions also with the great service I wish we could buy all the pipes direct!

Out of curiosity, how long does it normally take for something shipped from Ireland to the US? I receive my tracking information and check it daily on the Irish Post tracking page, but it says item dispatched from Ireland on 6/15 and that is the most recent update. Seems like it would have been received in the US by now...

Items from Geneva take about 10 days to get to Seattle, so probably give or take a few days on that time, depending on where you live.
