  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

2nd time's a charm (I hope)

Like I stated in my intro I just started getting back into the pleasures of cigar smoking about a month ago after a 10 year hiatus. I have a small 100 count humidor and decided since I really have no clue as to the newer brands or what my taste might be that samplers should be the way to go. I seasoned the box and started hunting, what I ended up with was a based little bit based on reputation and a little on pure guesswork.

Since joining I've spent a lot of time catching up on older threads and I have to admit that I feel a bit intimidated by both the quality and especially the quantity of the smokes you guys stock! I'll be taking small steps as I refine my palate and I hope some of you can give me a little intel on what I've got, maybe your insight and experience can help me enjoy what I've got rather than me just diving in and grabbing one pot luck. Thanks guys.

Here's what I've got, be gentle I know they're not up to some of the standards around here. The La Auroras were bought on past memories and the price was right on the bundle. They weren't quite as good as I remember but they're not terrible.

1 - Fonseca 5-50 (5" x 50)
2 - Gran Habano 3 Siglos Torpedo (6.1" x 56)
2 - Graycliff 1666 Presidente (7" x 48)
3 - Gurkha Connecticut Reserve Robusto #4 (6" x 50)
1 - Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Toro Maduro (6" x 52)
12 - La Aurora #4 (5 1/4" x 43)

1 - Perdomo Reserve Sungrown ’E’ (6" x 54)
1 - Puros Indios Reserva Maxima ’03 Robusto (5" x 50)
1 - RP Decade Toro (6.5" x 52)
2 - RP Edge Lite (6" x 52)

a lot of good starter smokes. let's you try different sizes, wrappers, etc. you have to discover for yourself what fits your palate.

I bought everything I could afford when I first started, which wasn't that long ago when I got serious. Send me your address and I'll put a little something together for you. I have to go to the post office tomorrow anyways.

Welcome to the brotherhood! The Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon Robusto is an awesome smoke. It's a little bit lighter than I prefer, but I keep some on hand.

1 - 5 Vegas Cask-Strength II Epicure (6" x 52) Not sure
1 - 5 Vegas Gold Toro (6" x 50) Relly didn't like it, harsh on the draw, put it down w/in 2 inches
2 - Augusto Reyes Nativo (5 1/2" x 44) No Clue
2 - Bolivar (6 1/2" x 44) Should be pretty rich, not smooth enough for me
1 - CAO Criollo Conquistador (6.1" x 52) Supposed to be really creamy, but I never got it
1 - Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon Robusto (5.5" x 52) It gave me diarrhea for 2 days
2 - Cohiba Lonsdale Grande (6 1/4" x 47) They've got a really heavy grass flavor
1 - Cu Avana Toro (6.0" x 50) Don't know
2 - Cusano 18 Maduro (5" x 50) Supposed to be a decent maduro
2 - Cusano 18 Connecticut (5" x 50) Know nothing
1 - Fonseca 5-50 (5" x 50) No Clue
2 - Gran Habano 3 Siglos Torpedo (6.1" x 56) Decent cigar, has some complexity to it
2 - Graycliff 1666 Presidente (7" x 48) Nice smooth cigar, a little too light for me
3 - Gurkha Connecticut Reserve Robusto #4 (6" x 50) Another light one
1 - Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Toro Maduro (6" x 52) Good intro cigar, not too complex, but it's not gross
12 - La Aurora #4 (5 1/4" x 43) I like the La Aurora line, don't know about this one
2 - La Gloria Cubana (5" x 50) If it's the Serie R, I love em
2 - Padilla Series ‘68 Toro (6" x 50) Good stick, may be the best of the bunch
1 - Perdomo Glorioso Lot 826 slow aged (6" x 52) ???
1 - Perdomo Reserve Sungrown ’E’ (6" x 54) ???
1 - Puros Indios Reserva Maxima ’03 Robusto (5" x 50) ???
1 - RP Decade Toro (6.5" x 52) I've heard not so good things, but some people love em
2 - RP Edge Lite (6" x 52) Decent stick, but light
2 - VS Bohemian Ginsburg (6" x 50) ???
2 - VS Legacy (6 1/2" x 52) ???

Thanks!
Mike

A very good selection and great set of sticks to start with. As was stated earlier, the more different cigars you smoke the better off you will be in the long run. I will send you some other sticks to try out as well.

Sorry Josh, my bad. Saw Joe's quote in your reply. I'm actually going to toast it tomorrow to decide for myself, in the bathroom just in case!

Yes. I'm telling you, the absolute worst cigar I've had. I even told the guys I was with that it tasted like a lead pipe. Their response, "why are you still smoking it". That was the last time I refused to put a bad cigar down!
