Got time in the shop this morning to finish 2 more pipes I had in the works, Still worked on some horn stuff also, but wanted to post pics of the pipes. I only have one more block so this wont last much longer
Please be critical, I sure am having a hard time figuring this pipe making stuff out. Maybe I should just stick with the horn work....

Personally, I am drawn toward the freehand style so that's obviously the one of these two that I like. But I really dig the half-rusticated/half-smooth finish.

Between Cody, you, and Dave, I'll be dropping cash on even more pipes in the future!

Griz. Please don't stop making pipes man. From the looks of it your a natural. The only criticism I can think of is on #6. It sort of resembles the crown of an antler. If you could have stained it to look like aged antler I'd be throwing money at it too.

That looks like some damn fine work brother. They both have little flairs of style that work for them in a good way. Certainly seems like something you should keep at, if only to keep the folks here happy Seriously though they both look great.

Dude, you have this pipe making thing figured out more than you think, or more than you are letting on at least . Stop being modest, those are both great looking pipes. Freehand has never been my style, but the craftsmanship is amazing and I love the way it flows with the grain. The poker on the other hand is right up my alley and SPOT ON! That thing is gorgeous! Love the lines on it and really digging the half rusticated finish. If it was custom for me, think I would have chosen a darker stem color, maybe something more tortoise shell or a dark red swirl, but if that pipe was for sale I couldn't get my card out of my pocket fast enough. When does the waiting list start?

OK, because you asked I'm going to give subjective feedback. I'm not a huge fan of the poker for two reasons. I'm not feeling the rustication pattern, and I don't like how the shank tapers down a little where it meets the bowl (my CDO is looking for sharp edges) . This is entirely subjective though because you used those design cues because you like them. The freehand looks great. They both do really, but if I were your consumer I'd go for the freehand between the two.

Now an objective observation. They are really both very good. I do believe you are more than skilled enough to make some amazing pipes. Don't stop if you are still loving it. I've been impressed with every one you've made.

Rob, I am my own worst critic, I have a lot of trouble with the "standard" styles of pipes, especially where the stem meets the bowl, I struggle with crisp lines at joints. Maybe a bit of an OCD perfectionist, so because of that the free hand was a lot easier for me.
Dave, nope, made 6 pipes and didn't light one of them yet. I am toying with the idea of adding a tab on my powder horn website and try selling some, just for a break from horns once in a while. I won't stop making horns cause I enjoy it, but I am starting to enjoy pipe makin also, now I gotta pick one out and light it.
Stuki, yep, I really struggle with nice crisp lines and it drives me nuts. Sometimes I over think things and then I REALLY mess things up....

I hear you - I am the same way with my work. It can be debilitating. You definitely have the bowl and shank processes down beautifully.

As an ardent bus driver, I can't believe I am about make a suggestion that will help someone (especially a guy like Griz) keep his addy hidden, but...

What about selling through Smoking Pipes? They sell on consignment and pipes would be shipped through them.

Sell on etsy. They can't see ur address. It's .20 to post and they only take 3.5% of price after its sold.

Yup. I have my pens there and will be posting my restores and pipe tampers there after I get caught up on my pens.
