  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I'm in the middle of my first 601 Green (Oscuro), and I'm frakin' loving this thing! That Don Pepin is a genius!

I can't give much in the way of review--it's my first one--but it's dark, strong, smooth, and has a lot of complex flavors with an underlying sweetness that I am REALLY digging! I like this better than the 601 Red (Habano) I think, which is a cigar that I really like and was one of my first Pepins.

This one is a robusto, and I think I have 1 or 2 more of these. The sweetness on this one is not quite as good as the Tat West Coast (my favorite stick right now), but it is pretty good.

I'm wondering what vitolas you guys like best in the 601 Green and if there are other sticks you'd recommend that have a similar flavor profile to this (or the Verocu).

Thanks, bros!

[For my thoughts on the 601 Black, see posts 14 and 16]

I smoked through the colors in robusto size and loved them all. I need to smoke some more to decide which I like best. I'd also be interested in hearing which vitola is everyone's favorite.

I think I have one of these lying around can't wait to try it... what's the difference between the 601 Green, Blue and Red Labels? is it just the wrapper or are they different blends?

I just had a Blue and LOVED it! I gotta try the red and green label! What about the black label? Anyone try those?

I was just looking at grabbing a green robusto the other day, but instead I picked up a Cubao robusto (another that I haven't had for quite a while).

I'm glad I did - Boy was that stick tasty!!!!
I need to go back & grab a few more (of each)!

Eric, so I'm smoking the 601 Black as I type (loved the Green so much I just couldn't wait to try them all). Holy crap! This sucker is awesome too! It started out so peppery that I thought I had accidentally grabbed my other Green.

I'm just finishing the 1st third now, but this is unlike ANY other Connie I've ever smoked. REALLY good--2nd only to the Cabaiguan thus far in my book...hopefully it will keep it up!

Update on 601 Black: The pepper subsided after the 1st third, as with most Pepin's I've smoked. But the the rest of this robusto was still flavorful and had a really nice finish, with ample spice through the nose. There was just a touch of sweetness throughout, which seems common based on the other Ecuadorian Connies I've smoked. Basically--a great cigar, though I can't put it in the typical "Connecticut" category based on the strength/body (upper medium I'd say...though I'm a noob so take it with a grain of salt).

It's definitely the strongest Connecticut Shade stick I've ever smoked. In terms of flavor, I'd still give the edge to the Cabaiguan--though one stick is a poor comparison I know. Though given that you can get the 601 Black for roughly have the cost of the Cab...well, I forsee myself needing to trade for some of these Blacks AND Greens now, lol!

601 is one of my favorite pepins, maybe mostly cause they are the most overlooked and underpriced on CB =)

Yeah, I just had the 601 green on Saturday and it was excellent. Started off with a real nice peppery kick (like I dipped the tip of my tongue in pepper). Great stick IMHO.
