9mm Pipes

Hey guys,

Just wanted to get some opinions on 9mm pipes. I have 1 and It smokes terribly, I dont want to condemn an entire size from one experience but I was just wondering if anyone else preffered 6mm like I do or if I just got a dud and there are some great 9mm out there?

Do you use the filter? I have a couple 6 mm Savinellis but never use the filter and they smoke okay. Maybe a pipe with a bigger filter capacity can't be smoked well without it? Maybe stuff a Savinelli balsa wood filter in there and see what happens?

I had every intention of trying but i gave a mate his choice of a free pipe and tobacco from my stash and dispite my recommendation he took the 9mm. Cant say im disapointed cos I was trying to explain my 6mm was far better so please take it but he liked the grain and the fact the 9mm was bent so the heart wants what it wants i guess. Will be a few more pipe purchases before i muster the courage to buy another 9mm i think.

I have a 9mm I use without filter and it smokes fine.

I use a 9mm balsa filter in my Stanwell instead of the charcoal filter. I find the balsa filter much more enjoyable.

I have a 9mm Bruyere pipe I bought off eBay. It smokes terrible. Gurgles like crazy, the bent stem is almost kinked inside, can't even get a pipe cleaner through it. I bought a filter replacement piece for it, ( don't like the filters) and it's too small and rattles every time you draw on it. I don't think I'll be buying another 9mm anytime soon, new or used
