  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Decided to check out my buddy's new spot tonight. In driving in through downtown Norfolk to get there I felt like it was kind of in a bad/odd location. They have been open just over a week now and we got there about an hour after they opened. There were 3 other people there when we arrived and I just passed it off as "they just opened". The theme was a steam punk theme and the spot wasn't too big, but had a comfy local feel to it.

Beer selection was good, not great but better than the average bars and they featured a lot of the local breweries on draft and a nice selection of bottles and canned beers. I did notice they had better liquor than most local bars, no cheap bullshit "well" liquor, just mostly mid level or better with a few premiums of each spirit.

Menu was limited as they were planning on adding more items next week. I was pretty impressed that the items they did have seemed well thought out and more interesting than your average bar fare. Within the first hour we were there several locals came walking up and within no time the patio was full and the restaurant was picking up.

We bullshitted with my buddy, had a few local beers.

Even sampled a drink from the Red Bull slushie machine

Finally, I ordered the "Torch Burger". Which has jalapenos, cheddar and ghost pepper cheese and some kind of hot ass sauce on it. Man, it was good but I had to pace myself as I was sweating a bit. Side was some sweet potato waffle fries.

We were planning on having a cigar, but with all the kids on the patio we opted to head elsewhere. Leaving out I realized that 2 blocks away was a neighborhood that definitely has the money to support the restaurants there.

So... Elsewhere was 5-6 blocks away at The Public House, where we played pool, had a few Ballast Point Sculpins and Breckenridge Vanilla Porters while playing pool and I enjoyed and Opus #4.

Then.... Second round of munchies was some banging Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots, more Sculpin and an Anejo 46
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430359806.428449.jpg

For desert we had some Blue Collar Mac and Cheese.

All that and still home by 10pm, not a bad Wednesday night.

Holy hell, if I ate that kind of spread, mixed in with booze and a few cigars I would be needing the costco size bottle of tums at the end of the night. Looks like fun though lol
I hear ya, we did split up the second round of food at The Public House but it was some rib sticking goodness!

Oh boy.....looks like a cigar smokers wet dream there. Now I'm hungry and those cigars look good enough to smoke....many times over. BTW...what's a bachelor...I've been married since I was 19 so that makes 41 years of putting the toilet seat down...every single f'n day.

I actually have a funny video about leaving the seat up in my house, but the GF would not be happy if I posted it
