In this video, chief blender and tobacco purchaser Nicholas Melillo explains the history of tobacco in Connecticut. Tobacco was first cultivated and smoked in Connecticut by the Mohawk Indians, but was then adopted by settlers in the area. The Connecticut River Valley's glacial soils ended up being the perfect condition for growing tobacco, hence why Connecticut Broadleaf is such a sought after tobacco today.
