  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.

Rodriguez's name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball's '03 survey testing, SI's sources say. As part of a joint agreement with the MLB Players Association, the testing was conducted to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing across the major leagues in 2004.

When approached by an SI reporter on Thursday at a gym in Miami, Rodriguez declined to discuss his 2003 test results. "You'll have to talk to the union," said Rodriguez, the Yankees' third baseman since his trade to New York in February 2004. When asked if there was an explanation for his positive test, he said, "I'm not saying anything."

What! How could such a thing possibly be true of a sportsman of such high integrity? It's a travesty and a smear campaign, I tell ya.

Who cares!!

We have created the system, yet we bitch and complain when we find corruption?...:sadstare:

Let's cap team sports. Basketball, baseball, football, etc. $1,000,000 and that is it. That includes advertising contracts. If they don't like that, they can f**k off and go to work at McDonalds. The corruption ,steroids, and antics would disappear.

eh, let's just assume they've all done it, and enjoy watching baseballs fly out of the stadiums. Give em more roids so they can hit my car in the parking lot, then I can make some money off of baseball too.

It is no different than someone cheating on their taxes to gain money and are both illegal. However in baseball remember it was not a banned substance.

If you think baseball is the only sport where this has been going on you are mis-informed.

I could tell stories for hours on how popular this is on the college and pro levels in football.

I for one could care less, at the time it was not a banned substance. Even so, I think it's more of a crime that our government wasted money on hearings for this. I think so many bigger fish to fry than baseball steroid users. .02

Well now we've turned our eyes to MMA wher roids are the norm.
Actually the testing in MMA is very strict. They test before every event and randomly as well. In fact people have failed in the past for creatine witch is not illegal and can be bought at GNC and the few that have got in trouble for using roids get suspended and fined. So I think to say roids are a norm in MMA is a false statement. Roids are used by a select few who don't want to put in the hard work for the winning results and I think someone in every sport has probably gotten popped for roids.

I shake my head when the baseball people say that roids were not a banned substance at a certain date in time. The only date that really matters is when US laws declared that steroids were illegal.

I was a huge Yankee fan as a kid. As time wears on, I really have lost interest in all sports.

I will take the good old days of Mantle.

So you have never broken a law. I find that hard to believe. If I told you I had something you could take that could increase your production, and therefore increase your income, would you take it?

U should also cap the owners and stop them from sending jobs overseas. Killing our middle class and creating a middle class in other countries. charity begins at home not in China.

my point is that steroids are illegal in the US. If i get caught with them, I will be in some trouble. How is it that a baseball player tests positive, obviouly there is proof, and nothing happens to him. Getting banned for a few games or a season is not what I call punishment. Where are the criminal charges?

as they say, money is the root of all evil. it makes baseball players take steroids, and it makes our politicians crooked.

I agree they punishment should be:

First time ..........suspended for half of the season and loss of pay.
Second time.......suspended for one year and loss of pay.
Third time..........suspended for life and loss of pay

The loss of pay should include any and all money.

you are forgetting the criminal end of things. they have broken a law besides a baseball rule.
i doubt anybody is going to jail regarding steroid use, and i am sure that prison sentences usually involve selling of steroids, but these steroid users to deserve to get their balls broken a little bit by the courts.

It is not illegal to do drugs. It is against the law to buy, sell, and/or posses drugs. Just like marijuana, is not illegal to be high.

I know what yo are going to say, if your do drugs you have to posses them, this is true. In order to be charged with that, you have to be caught with the drugs.

U.S. Federal Law

The Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990 became law on November 29, 1990, when former President Bush signed the Omnibus Crime Control Bill. The law applies in every Federal court across the country. It places steroids in the same legal class - Schedule III -- as barbiturates, LSD precursors, veterinary tranquilizers like ketamine and narcotic painkillers like Vicodin. Simple possession of any Schedule III substance is a federal offense punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a minimum fine of $1,000. Simple possession by a person with a previous conviction for certain offenses, including any drug or narcotic crimes, must get imprisonment of at least 15 days and up to two years, and a minimum fine of $2,500. Individuals with two or more such previous convictions face imprisonment of not less than 90 days but not more than three years, and a minimum fine of $5,000, just for simply possessing. Selling steroids, or possessing them with intent to sell, is a federal felony. An individual who sells steroids, or possesses with intent to sell, is punishable by up to five years in prison (with at least two additional years of supervised release) and/or a $250,000 fine. An individual who commits such a violation after a prior conviction for a drug offense faces up to ten years imprisonment (with at least four additional years of special parole) and/or increased fines.

Nowhere in there does it say under the infuence.
