I started a new thread on this b/c I've recently acquired a box of 5000 Maduro's from 2001. Oddly enough, they smell like chocolate. They really, actually, no-kidding, smell like chocolate. They're not even box pressed anymore. I smoked one yesterday and will be posting up the review soon. It's definitely not the same cigar. It's much more mellow than any Padron maduro I've had, but still a good smoke.

On a side note, my brother found a box of 1964 Exclusivo Maduro buried in his cooler that he and I had bought together back in 2005. There was one cigar left inside! He smoked it tonight while we watched UFC 125. I got a few puffs out of it. It burned razor sharp (like all high end Padrons tend to) and tasted amazing. He was trying to see how long he could keep the ash from falling. He got about 3 inches in before it finally let go. I found it interesting b/c I remember the 1964's getting blandish after about 1 or 2 years. Now, I'll have to revisit that thought since I'm wondering if that bland period is just a "sick" period. Good thing I still have half a box of my own Principe maduros to find out.

A quick search will yield you several posts about aging Padrons. That's a sick find my friend . I can't seem to let them set in my humi very long so finding a box that had already been aged would be the only way I could get my hands on some .

In my opinion that is a stunning find!

I have found that any size within the 1,000 Series aged two years or more just smokes wonderfully! :cbig:

Aged or not they are a fantastic cigar. They definitely have different characteristics but I couldn't say which I prefer more. They smoke great at the time of purchase or a couple years later.

I will agree that the X000 line is great with some age I still say that the Anni's loose something with age. I would rather smoke a somewhat fresh Anni but an older X000...Just my 2cents.:cbig:

Padrons usually have a little piece of paper in the box with the buncher, roller and date.

I've also read this about their premium lines. Logically, it makes sense as well seeing as the tobacco in their Anniversary lines is already aged. Continued, or long term, aging could send them past their prime. That's why I also got a box of 2002 1964 Sampler.

If those are from the same source I looked at those same cigars. A buddy of mine got the 6000's and sent me a pic of how yellow the cello looked. The 1000's with age are great.

+1 and then some

Sparked a 1926 serie #6 from 05 and it had lost what made those cigars special, IMO.

I bought a box of the 6000's from 2000 and they were superb. I was surprised when I rated it a 94 and CA a mere 89. I figured it wouldn't be much better due to the fact that the padrons already age their tobaccos.
Any thoughts???

They do loose their umph after some time (as with any cigar) but the flavor and balance that they develop suits my preferences alot more. Personally not a fan of shear strength or in-your-face flavor... your tastes may differ.

I love aged padrons whether it be the x000, 64's or even 26's with a couple of years age.
