  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

hey guys I have a tampa trivoli humidor and a 28 bottle vino I just bought. Should I age my cigars in the trivoli or the vino? Any pros and cons to either one. Thanks

Well, I keep most of my cigars in cedar cigar boxes inside large tuperware bins (same environment as the Vino, essentially, minus the temp control).

There is something to be said--at least in theory--for this model over the standard cedar humidor model. This way, the cedar boxes absorb the moisture and transfer it to the cigars ... I believe this gives more cedar flavor and some have suggested it even ages the cigar faster. This is vs. a humidor, where you essentially have the humidification element transferring moisture to the cigars directly (because it's air-permeable). I'd guess that a large cabinet-style humidor would probably have the advantages of the bins/Vino plus even MORE cedar (that's what I'd like to get someday).

Honestly, all I can say for sure is that my collection is doing perfectly fine in the bins, so from my experience the Vino won't be worse than the traditional humi, provided you keep the Vino at a good rH, don't let it overheat, and open the door once a week at least so that it breathes. And as I said, it may even be better than a traditional humi.

My 2 cents!

Interesting but what about if you put the whole cigar box in the traditonal humidor? Then which would be better? Oh the temperature wont be going over 75 degrees in my house due to were I live , I forgot to mention that.

Hmm, that's a tough one. I'll admit I have not stored cigars long enough to feel comfortable giving you "THE" answer, so I'll let some of the vets chime in here. I think what everyone agrees on is that constant rH is the main factor in keeping them nice, but I've heard that some who are planning on long-term storage use different rH or temps for that than for things they are planning to smoke soon.

I skip that too, but my aged cigars are in a Vino at 65/65 ish.

I have nothing but great things to say about the vinotemp setup. I have been using mine for a couple years now with not one problem. Holds humidity rock solid for a long time. My boxes are aging great. I have lots of cedar sheets in mine for an added touch of that cedar humidor smell.

I have my cigars aging at 65/65 all year long, I have it full of boxes and have never had any mold issues ever.
