  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Am I on the good way?

Just back from a local B&M and I got these
They had corn cob but you could see trough the bowl; the owners told me these would have better résultats to try out and were cheaper. Seeing how you can take them apart I figured they woyld make good learning tools...?

I also have a moderne version of what my grandfather used to call a czeck tool; might come in handy.

So I need honest opinions... good or no good?

Now to see if I can fill them properly... and light them.

Don't put the pipe tobacco in your humidor. Cigars need much higher rh than pipe tobacco. I would just put it in a tupperware type container or a mason jar once you open it.

I have a zippo and was hoping to use it. Didn't know it needed a much lower rh. Mason jars is a good idea. Thanks brothers.

The tobacco I chose isn't as good as I tought, but so far I seem ok lifting the thing

I frequently use a standard Zippo to light my pipe. All you have to do is hold the pipe and lighter at about 45 degrees and puff away. Good luck!

The package says cavendish with golden virginia and burly. Its imported from the US. Lol.

Its not bad. The package smells a lot like something my dad and grandfather smoked, but it burns somewhat different.

The bowls on those two pipes are on the small side. Not sure its a good thing.

I have been mandated by the better half to get some fruit flavored tobacco for her to use one of the pipe. Looks ĺike I made a good purchase!

I was talking to an old fella that used to work with my dad the other day about pipes and baccy. He said, and my dad later said he has said it in the past, good tobacco smells bad and bad tobacco smells good. I later confirmed that he wasn't a fan of Aro's. Lol

Small bowls I like to smoke Flakes out of, At times the Aromatic tobaccos seem to burn little hot and wet in small bowls. VaPer smoke for me ok in small bowls too. My wife and I smoke Pipes together as well. Hope you 2 enjoy smoking pipes together. A good Tobacco not sure if you can find it there is Mac Baren The Cube Silver. It is rather wet tobacco, somewhat hard to smoke from small bowls but is very Fruity and a tobacco I really like for a Aromatic.. My wife loves it, taste and room note. I have smoked it from a small bowl pipe after a few hours of drying out.

Nice!

If I may suggest, CAO Black really reminds me of chocolate covered raspberries and you both may enjoy it.

Also, try some Molto Dolce.

Thanks for the tip!

At 20something dollar a pack here it doesn't make trial an error super easy... knowing what to look for will help a lot.

Today I got Borkum Riff 'cherry liquor' and its nothing sweat or flavorfull, its fuller bodied than I tought. Can it be too dry? It feels drier that other packs. So went out of town to another store and I got Mac Baren 'vanilla cream' and while it smell good, it does not taste vanilla. Still un certain she will like. But there's more chances than the Borkum Riff.

Out of three b&m I didn't find much selection so far. Maybe its a canadian thing like our difficulty to find good NCs. I'll have to explore a bit more. On another note, one of the store carry opus X! First I ever see. At sixthy dollar a stick I think they'll still have some when I get there next time.

1 question. How do we know if a pack is too dry (I suspect that this b&m is not having much rotation on pipe stuff and I think it was drier than it should. They don't have tins...)

Can you get Prince Albert, Carter Hall, or Half and Half? I smoke a decent amount of PA. I think it tastes and smells good in addition to being good learning tobacco (burns consistent, not apt to get tongue bite).

When I first started on the pipe I didn't have very good luck with B&M re-badged bulk brands. I remember smoking something they labeled as "Fox & Hound". It smelled OK, but reminded me of Urine when smoked.

I don't recall those names specifically but most names are new to me. I'll keep an eue open for those, thanks.

Tje cherry liquor has lot of tangue bite. Its unpleasant. The selection is rather thin, I'll have to find out the good spots.

Thanks.

I guess I am on the good way....

She liked the vanilla one very much. Enough to get to the B&M and acquire a better pipe and more flavored tobacco. The new pipe "smoked better" :peace:
