  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I got a response...about 3 weeks ago...I dont think they are coming!

We are all suckers for the Leaf! When someone offers free sticks...we will sell our mother's soul!

Well I spoke with Cesar, who I believe is one of the owners and he assured me he would be personally sending the smokes out next week. He did apologize, and asked me to call him on Monday. I'm not sure what happened to Jeff, but it does sound like he still works there. So I guess we'll see.

I got the same reply. To me, it reads like it's either Cesar's fault for not getting a box to him to send out or he's taking a long time to get to the meeting.

Either way, this guy is damaging to Bariay cigars.

That was the first thing that came to mind too.

I hope that this guy was just over zealous in trying to do a good job. I've thought about it and kind of poked fun at him, but I also stopped and tried to think about what I would do if I were in his shoes.

I still think that it was a little lame to do what he did.

I would have no trouble with the delay if he could keep us updated. My hospital is all about (and when i say ALLL I mean ALL about keeping patients happy even if it means giving out Nacs faster than a dealer.) customer service. So we have many many classes on how to give great service. We learn from the "greats" like the Hilton and others. We are pressured to give updates often. Even if it is unknown how long the wait is.

If i was a rep trying to start up a new line of cigars you can rest assured that the first thing i would do is be prepared before i made an offer. To give the initial impression that there is communication problems within the company and therefore empty promises is incredibly damaging. As someone who is in sales I know that making that first impression positive and making it seem like the company you represent is running like a well oiled machine is crucial, even if in reality it is not. I don't mean any offense to Jeff, but this is a bad way to try and get customers.

Yea, the delay doesn't bother me at all. Unless I missed something, he never said that he's send them by a certain day. It seems like he expected to be able to send them sooner rather than later, but for some reason hasn't been able to.

I agree that keeping us informed would have been better, but I figure this isn't the only thing he does in his job.

Most of the time when you sign up for a freebie or promo thing, it's a few weeks for delivery. I'm waiting on several different things that I ordered weeks ago. From that point of view this Barclay freebie is par for the course. However...

An exception was the Macanudo 1968s which basically arrived before I closed my web browser, lol. The fact that they came so fast REALLY impressed me quite a bit--and first impressions mean a lot. If this lack of communication/promptness leaves a bad taste in your mouth, then it will probably be tough for the cigar itself to overcome that bad impression.

I'm still a noob, so for me it's the cigar itself that matters. But this should be a lesson to the company that for Vets such as yourselves, customer service is king.

Although i have my reservations about this whole thing and the way it was handled I do believe that we should give Jeff the benefit of the doubt until we know for sure this thing is a bust. Sometimes it is easy to get over zealous about a new product and perhaps jump the gun on its promotion. I certainly would love to see a good new cigar and have all end up happy and successful. Having said that, i hope they learn a thing or two about sales techniques and promises. To already have a public finger pointing episode between Jeff and Cesar is certainly not a good sign of a healthy operation. I am interested to see what happens here.

one more update....
Cesar said all the samples are rolled, he wanted to let them cedar mellow for a week before shipping, he also told me they'd be in the mail this coming week. Again thanks for your patience and pass this info on to anyone that asks.

Right on, Sounds like they are just getting things lined up and will have our samples out soon. Maybe they were just getting the best of the best tobacco for our smokes.
