So... questions... keep in mind I'm a pipe noob and have limited knowledge... that lip around the bowl... I think it looks cool but could it be something that wears down quickly with a flame or might crack off over time? Ive never seen anything like that before.

I think it would be fine. Especially if you use a proper pipe lighter with a soft flame.

That's the one I use. Works a treat!
