  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anybody catch this? I heard he was visiting Managua & Esteli & I had to stay up and watch!

In Tony's usual fashion he eats & narrates his way way through some interesting meals, but also gave a brief history on the country, his opinion on the current state of policy & politics and put a spotlight on the people: their hospitality, humility and passions.

I saw some familiar places from when I visited last March with some BOTL & some of the dishes prepared for the episode definitely left my mouth watering!

In the end it reminded me of our bitter-sweat adventure - despite the poverty & deprivation, the people were friendly, the food excellent & we were treated wonderfully (except for the one cat trying to pick-pocket Justin!)...

Any thoughts?

Just found it... next time it's on DirecTV is Sunday at 8am Eastern. Tivo is set but I'll probably look online before then. :)

I watched it as well. I thought it was a great episode, I loved hearing the history about the area and seeing places and landmarks I recognize from my visit there last month. I liked how this episode focused on the people of Nicaragua and showed a few things that you are never going to see while visiting, such as the stuff at the dump. That part was depressing as hell, but a real eye opener as to what it takes for some of those people to survive.

It looks like Anthony stayed in the same hotel that we did - I admit to getting a small charge seeing some familiar streets/murals/buildings. I felt the same way though - I felt bad for a lot of the people. On the other hand, I can understand why some people (like in the show No Reservations) WANT to live there - free & off the grid sounds very attractive to me sometimes.

I watched it last night too. Actually, the whole time I watched it I kept on thinking "Maybe he'll visit a cigar factory".

It was really interesting to learn about a country where a lot of my cigars come from. I had idea Nic's past was so volatile.

I agree was very cool. Unfortunately a lot of it was Andrew Zimmermanesque with some creepy stuff being eaten....but I would go in a heart beat and just eat at that little chicken stand on the side of the road all day long!

Saw the previews, but didn't watch last night. I'll have to look for it online.
