I built a .45-70 "brush gun" about 2 years ago that I love...

took a NEF single shot shotgun receiver.. fitted an 18" H&R .45-70 bbl to it.. threw on a "youth" stock and forend.. and topped it with a little 1x4 adj vortex scope...

kicks like a mule that just ate a bushel of habaneros...

but its super fun to shoot...

and dead on out to a little over 100 yards..

perfect for shooting out of a blind or in thick brush etc... has a really fast swing.. points exceptionally well.. etc....

Sounds like a nice setup!

I don't feed mine anything special... Just Winchester supreme elite bonded 405 grain for big game with thick hides (elk).. And Winchester white box 300 grain for deer...

The receiver I used is low pressure only.. So no buffalo bore or super hot handloads in the .45-70...

Hell the 405s loaded "soft" produce more felt recoil in that little brush gun than my full size 7mm WSM with heavy/hot loads...

I don't think I'm interested in a hot .45-70 lol...

One of the Marlins in that caliber is high on my wish list. I just saw that Henry came out with a .45-70 lever action. Anyone familiar or heard any feedback on it?

I was considering the Henry, but I don't like the tube feed reloading method. The Chiappa in .45-70 is another option.

I'll look that one up. I've seen some of their other products. I, too, thought that reloading method odd, albeit one that we've all grown up with.
