  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

any tour fans?

tour de france started this weekend. it is still one of the amazing athletic events in the world. i did some biking in the past and really came to appreciate how much these guys have to be able to endure. with lance back in the mix, it should be pretty exciting, even if he isn't as competitive as he once was.

they haven't decided yet. contadore is probably a little better right now. at least he's younger. astana has a strong team. lance says he'll be a domestique if that's what the team needs.

Love the TdF. Used to support Jan Ullrich myself. And the team time trial is back which is always a great day to watch. Should be an interesting tour this year with Lance back in the mix. Cadel Evans is also always there and there abouts but Levi is looking good too.

What is Lance's motivation? I believe you'll find out on Stage 7, July 10. The end of the stage is an almost 6000 foot climb to Arcalis. Lance wants this bad, very bad. Let's see if he has anything in the tank.

Today Lance made up some time, and Contator was blamed for splitting the Peleton. Lance's comments I'm sure will add drama to the team.

"Armstrong, who steadfastly refuses to rule himself out of aiming for an eighth Tour de France crown, appeared to make a veiled reference to Contador's slip when he held court at Astana's team bus.

"It wasn't that they didn't take advantage. It was just that they weren't there," he said when asked why the other favorites failed to follow.

"When you see what the wind is doing and you have a turn (bend) coming up, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you have to go to the front.

"I've won the Tour de France seven times, so it makes no sense not to be there.""

i will be watching the replay tonight after work. it's perfect since there is nothing else on!
i was a little surprised that lance had said earlier that he'd be a team player if needed. his ego (justified) is not going to let him just sit back. and really, until someone else comes along and blows him away, why not go for it? he's still the man until proven differently!

I know practically nothing about this, but I thought it was determined before hand who the alpha dog was and who the support riders were? So, you are saying if you can win then team orders are out the window?

I am amazed by these guys! Do you remember Miguel Indurain? He had a resting heart rate of 28bpm! That was crazy! I think Lance is the best endurance athlete of all time.

Big Mig they used to call Indurain. He was awesome. Also little Marco Pantani (Il Pirata) was fantastic but is now dead. Today was a good stage. Tomorrow should be interesting too. Always exciting to watch, that is for sure.

It usually is. This is a very unique situation. This occurred back in 1986, when La Vie Claire had two potential leaders, Greg LeMond and Bernard Hinault. LeMond was the young gun, and Hinault was the aging champ (with 5 tour de france wins). Hinault claimed he would ride in support of LeMond, but then attacked him in the mountains the first chance he could. Hinault eventually cracked, and LeMond went on to win. Regardless of the results, the situation created drama, and lots of it.

How LeMond and Contador react in the mountains should be very entertaining to say the least.

Regarding Indurain, I remember the tour when he sacrificed himself on a climb to get Delgado up to the leaders. You could see greatness on the horizon.

Well, after Stage 3, Lance has positioned himself in 3rd place, the time trials today will be very interesting.
