  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

any tour fans?

Astana won the time trial and the annoucer said that Lance is either tied with the leader, Cancellara, or just within seconds of 1st place.

I enjoy cycling--as in, doing it myself. I'm on my bike all the time.

I do not, however, follow the professionals...and certainly not on TV (I only watch about an hour of TV per week).

20 some years ago, the Tour de France was just a bunch of guys riding bikes around France to me.

After getting into cycling, and joining a team and racing road and mountain bikes, I tune in and see team tactics, both within the team and between teams. You can't watch it for hours, but I use the DVR and watch every escape, pursuit, sprint and mountain finish.

Lance Armstrong surged within a second of the Tour de France lead after his Astana squad won Tuesday's team time trial in a dramatic finish.

Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara of the Saxo Bank team narrowly kept the yellow jersey lead following the fourth stage, a 24.2-mile ride in and around Montpellier.

Astana needed to beat Saxo Bank by more than 40 seconds for Armstrong to take the yellow jersey. The seven-time champion started the stage in third place, and Astana exactly matched that 40-second deficit. Cancellara's team finished third.

"That's Swiss timing," Cancellara said, laughing. "Time is on my side."

Armstrong credited his teammates but acknowledged he had hoped to move in front after the first team time trial on the Tour since 2005.

"This is a little bit of a disappointment," he said. "That's cycling."

what a great stage. if lance had only swung out instead of staying in line at the finish he'd be in yellow! astana has four really strong riders.

Remember, Contador was 22 seconds faster than Lance in the Prologue, so he appears to be fit.

Contador will be looking to make up his 19 second deficit. Not sure if Friday will be the day, but I can't wait to find out.

I'm afraid of Lance looking like a 37 year old in the mountains.

Stage Six has been completed, Cancellara still has the yellow jersey, Lance is tied with him and Contador is .19 seconds back.

The "real" mountains are tomorrow!

Lance Armstrong dropped one spot to third place in the Tour de France on Friday, with rival and teammate Alberto Contador breaking away in the final sprint up the mountain to claim second.

Italy's Rinaldo Nocentini captured the yellow jersey from Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara after a punishing climb in the Pyrenees to complete the seventh stage. It was the first time the overall lead changed hands since Cancellara won the opening-day time trial in Monaco.

The 140-mile leg from Spain into Andorra, the first in high mountains of this three-week race, was won by Brice Feillu of France in a solo breakaway.

Armstrong, a seven-time champion coming out of retirement, said he was not as tired as he thought he'd be.

"Overall, I feel pretty good. ... Things didn't quite go according to plan that we set up earlier, but it didn't matter," he said. "It was a fine day overall."

The 37-year-old Texan began the stage a split second off the lead and now trails by eight. Contador, the 2007 Tour winner, is six seconds behind the leader. He finished 3 minutes, 26 seconds after Feillu.

Seven-time champion Lance Armstrong remains in third place in the Tour de France, after Spain's Luis Leon Sanchez won the eighth stage Saturday in a sprint ahead of three other breakaway riders.

Rinaldo Nocentini of Italy earned the yellow jersey for the second straight day by finishing in a pack with Armstrong and his Astana teammate Alberto Contador. The 2007 Tour winner is six seconds back, with Armstrong eight seconds back.

Their teammate, Levi Leipheimer, is 39 seconds off the pace in fourth.

I just have a question, I don't watch a lot of cycling outside of bits and pieces of the TdF, but what is with the guys being able to hold on to the cars?? What is the "ruling" on that, is there an amount of time they are allowed to hold on to the car and how many times they can do it?? Doesn't seem like they should be allowed any help in the race.

the only time it's allowed is if they are getting mechanical work on the bike or medical attention. sometimes when they are handing out a bottle, they'll take a second to make the pass, but it is otherwise forbidden. of course, the referee has to see it.
