I got interested in listening to records so I went to the local swapmeet and bought a cheap system for like $40. I get almost all my records there and hardly ever pay more than $1 (sometimes just 25 cents). The problem is that they are so cheap, I end up buying a ton.
I have a little bit of everything: Glenn Miller/Tommy Dorsey, older country (Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Waylon, Merle, Hank Williams Sr.), some Sinatra, and a little bit of everything else (Chicago, Kingston Trio, Twisted Sister, Iron Butterfly, Nat King Cole, Donna Summers).
I am establishing a tradition with my 9 month old daughter: while we are getting her ready for bed we play one side on an LP. Every night it is something different. I hope I can continue this with her and my other kids.
I haven't noticed much older rock albums, or seen any heavy metal, e.g. Judas Priest, Def Leppard, etc. I'm wondering if this is either because these are highly sought after and therefore not in the bargain pile or if this was the transition from LPs to tapes.
Anybody else prefer to listen to vinyl instead of CDs?
