I got interested in listening to records so I went to the local swapmeet and bought a cheap system for like $40. I get almost all my records there and hardly ever pay more than $1 (sometimes just 25 cents). The problem is that they are so cheap, I end up buying a ton.

I have a little bit of everything: Glenn Miller/Tommy Dorsey, older country (Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Waylon, Merle, Hank Williams Sr.), some Sinatra, and a little bit of everything else (Chicago, Kingston Trio, Twisted Sister, Iron Butterfly, Nat King Cole, Donna Summers).

I am establishing a tradition with my 9 month old daughter: while we are getting her ready for bed we play one side on an LP. Every night it is something different. I hope I can continue this with her and my other kids.

I haven't noticed much older rock albums, or seen any heavy metal, e.g. Judas Priest, Def Leppard, etc. I'm wondering if this is either because these are highly sought after and therefore not in the bargain pile or if this was the transition from LPs to tapes.

Anybody else prefer to listen to vinyl instead of CDs?

Most albums from JP, Leppard, and the like are pretty highly sought after by collectors and major audiophiles...You can usually find them for sale on E-bay, and every now and then you'll get lucky and catch them at garage sales, or good will stores..

haha I read that title wrong, I thought it said "Anybody like to wax it". i was like what the hell are you talking about.

Oh yeah what's an album? by the time I was old enough to buy music, the cassette was the big thing. My parents have a ton or albums laying around, but I cannot ever remeber listening to them.. i guess I'm in the gernation that missed out.

I have a Nikko turntable connected to my NAD tuner and dual amps. Always liked LP's and have at lease 150. Went a step furhter and bought a gramophone that cranks and plays. Now I am lookign for the original records for this.

I'm old enough (43) to have had some 78 rpm records when I was a kid. Anyone remember the book "Little Black Sambo"? It came with at least one 78 rpm record to listen to while you were reading/looking at the pictures.

Anyway, I still have about a milk crate's worth of my 70's rock albums. My dad has some from the 50's-60's. Stuff like The Everly Bros., Chet Atkins, Herb Alpert, and so on. I much prefer listening to music on vinyl but it's been years since I have heard it through a good system.

I have about 200 records or so - I don't listem to them as much anymore but at one point was planning to get a killer audiophile system and just never got around to it. I have about 30 or so that are actually wax, not vinyl. They almost feel ceramic and they sound so damn cool...
