Anyone have obscure local craft brewers?

I only ask because I, some how, am fortunate enough to have three micro/craft breweries real close.

So what do you guys have around your area that are currently testing the limits of "conventional" brews? Next month Troegs is releasing a new "scratch series" which is a Double Espresso Oatmeal Stout. It's not just a name they are brewing beer with coffee roasted by a local business. I have got to get my hands on some and try it with a cigar. I am anticipating a match made in heaven!

In San Diego we have Stone (no longer so obscure), Alesmith, Pizza Port Brewing and Oggi's... all really exceptional breweries! Some of the other local microbreweries, and there are approximately eleventy gazillion of them, are average at best.

To anyone who hasn't tried something from Stone or Alesmith, which are available in most parts of the country, I highly suggest gettin' you some!

By Texas standards Real Ale Brewing Co. is pretty close. They are most famous for their Full Moon Pale Rye Ale, but my personal favorite is Devil's Backbone, closely followed by Sisyphus Barley Wine. Devil's Backbone is a Belgian Style Triple that is only available in draught in Austin and San Antonio. The Full Moon Rye is also pretty good.

Yeah. That's a good one. To the north of me is Boscos in Memphis. They also distribute Ghost River beer.

We have St Arnold's. They make a variety of great beers. Just down the street is Spoetzl Brewery which brews Shiner. They produce some very limited stuff that is great!

5 minutes from me, there is a brewery that specializes in wheat beer. The brewery is the High Point Wheat Beer Company, and they brew Ramstein beer. Other than a few varieties of wheat beer, they also brew seasonals.

I happen to really enjoy wheat beer, and it's nice being able to fill a growler at the brewery minutes away.

we used to have a small brewery in kc......boulevard. not so small anymore.

Living in Central WI I have access to quite a bit of micro-breweries. Central Waters makes very good beer. Their yearly release of Bourbon Barrell stout is really good. A good friend of mine who has run a homebrew supply store started his own brewery last year called O'so and he makes really good beer. He does some experimental beers like Floppin Opie where he used freshly tapped maple syrup instead of water.

Weyerbachers makes some great beer! There Old Heathen Imperial Stout is great on a cold winter night. The Bethlehem Brew Works & Allentown Brew Works are brew pubs (in Bethlehem & Allentown, PA) great beers and food. Barley Creek Brewing (Tannersville, PA) is another brewpub close by and finally Lion Brewing who makes the Stegmeyer and Pocono Ale.

Arbor brewery in Ann Arbor...some good flavor profiles.

But I am jealous of anyone in ATL...Sweet Water Brewery. Two words Summer Hummer! It is a high gravity beer with a little extra alcohol in it and it is delicious!
