The instrument cluster went bad in my truck. Gm one is 800 bucks! so I'm going to try and find a used one. I can get my old one rebuilt for 200 bucks but at that price even, i can go without. only the speedometer is acting up but its a stick and I can kind of tell how fast I'm going I never leave town with it.

Free advice, pay the $200 to get it rebuilt. I had a similar issue and swapped it out with someone else's problems. It cost me about $150 for the "new" one. I ended up getting the original one reworked.

Pretty much a known issue on GM trucks. Replacing the cluster will resolve your issue but it may return. ( Like Duct says )

If you are handy with a soldering iron it is the stepper motor behind the needle. The part is like $15 on Amazon.

There's a guy out there (I haven't used) takes your cluster and will fix one guage at $39. Another guy replaces "all motors" like $65. I'm sure there's similar places out there. Google, you'll see.

There's a guy on ebay that has done 100s of them for $50. Option #2 below, ( ebay search "gm gauge repair)

:) It's an 82 but no, that's the cd/mp3/radio. It has the removable faceplate. Also there was 1000 watts in the trunk until last summer I gave it to my son when his amp quit.
