  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Me & the Fam are making a trek to France over April vacation.

We will be there for two weeks.

We will have a few days in Paris highlighted by 1 night out for me and the Mrs. for a hot date in the city of lights.

So does anyone have any recomendations for a GREAT restaurant to eat at in Paris.

All recomendations welcome as we will have no problem blowing the budget on this one!

Well, you've gotta get started at a café. There are 3 of distinction (1 is just my favorite):
1. Café de Flore 6th Ar. : where people go to be seen.
2. Les Deux Magots : also St. Germain (of course), their desserts are phenomenal. (Of course, this is a city where they serve a pound slice of flan in any bakery you happen to pass by, but LDM has really delicious stuff.)
3. Le Select : my absolute favorite café, I think it is in the 5th, so we're still safely left bank here. The waiters are great and it is certainly more old guard than the previous two.

An honorable mention should be made for Hotel du Louvre, which happens to be right around the corner from A La Civette, which I'm sure you'll want to drop a few Euros in. Of note there, see if they still have Quay d'Orsai panatelas, which are as close to cigar heaven as you're likely to get, especially paired with an Armagnac, absolute perfection. Their café crémes are absolutely outstanding at HdL.

There is one restaurant that sticks in mind, it was phenomenal, but both times I went I was, how you say, drunk to my eyeballs, so I'll have to ask my wife what it was. You almost can't go wrong walking around St. Germain and picking a random place, though.

Finally, and on an unrelated note, do make sure to go to the Musée d'Orsay if you haven't been. The Manets alone are absolutely stunning. Picnic on the Grass and Olympia dropped me to my knees.

Can you tell I get a little excited about Paris? Greatest city in the world.

Yeah, it is a municipal district (arrondissement, if we want to be French about it) easy to find. Don't know where you're staying, but I might also point out that the Metro is easy to navigate and super efficient.

And THIS was the restaurant I couldn't recall the name of: http://www.closeriedeslilas.fr/
Awesome place, great vibe, bartender knocks a rum punch out of the park. Enjoy your time in Paris.

If you can get a reservation, which might not be possible at this late of a date, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon.

For other ideas you could watch the No Reservations that was filmed in Paris last year I think.

Wish I could also visit Paris with no problem blowing the budget. Last year me and my family planned to visit any country in Europe but the plan never materialize because we really find it so expensive. Well, I guess next year I have to take out payday loans just to fulfill my parents request and visit Europe. All the suggestions in this thread could be very useful. Hope this time I'll be able to send my parents for a great vacation. I'll be working hard for it this year, wish me luck guys.
