my brother had an AR 15 match grade one it was like 1200 dollars. but it was awsome. loved the thing. depending on what you are using it for and it sounds like huning specifically. i would either go for the AR 10 or the M1A1 from springfield-armory.com its one of the best semi auto rifles anywere in my opinion. hope this helps. ohh and the AR 15 had about and inch between three rounds at 150 yards with me shooting so they are extremely acurate.
I have both a Match Grade M1 and AR-15, For deer though I would go with a Bolt action , you really don't need all that fire power...Unless "They are coming right at us":riflefire or just thinning the heard, But I really like the M1 in the ever respected 308..:assaultri
I have to agree an AR-10 would not be that great of a hunting gun. I have a Bushmaster ar-15 in .223rem where at least in my gun the mag will rattle even lightly touching something which would spook a whitetale most likely. I had a nice buck bolt on me just hearing me take the safety off of my model 70 , he made the unfortunate mistake of stopping and turning around to see where the sound came from though
.308 would have much greater stopping power but nothing like a lot of modern bolt action calibers. I load 270.win w/ hornady 130gr.sst bullets. an awesome bullet that almost explodes once inside a whitetale. My next hunting rifle will most likely be a Weatherby bolt action. Tikka also makes a fine rifle and much cheaper.
I agree with the 270 WM.. the 243 is also a good round. My rifle of choice is a TCR 83 with twin set triggers. I bought it and 5 other barrels to use for whatever i was hunting for. 30-06 also.
AR-15 is too heavy of a weapon for hunting, especially if you go with a HBAR. Too me, the 223 round is too light and fast.
