  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Huh, I'm looking around for a good driving cigar. I need a smoke to and from work, cause I drive an hour each way. Thought they looked like a nice sun grown cigar.

I personally don't care for the Sinclairs, although I have some. I know some of our brothers like them. THAt's why there are so many cigars. Different smokes for different folks!

I don't like the Vic Sinclairs, but I do like the Astrals... the original and the cameroon wrappers. They are a mild to med smoke that has a good taste and aroma. Dry-box them before smoking because they burn terrible if too moist.

do they have a similar cameroon wrap like Fuente hemmingways? Or spicier like Don Carlos?

Use to smoke them all the time at the golf club. One of 3 brands they had. It is a great mild smoke. Nothing to jump up and down about. That's about it.

Try Rocky Patel sungrown ... a much better alternative. Robustos are about $5 each ... but if you buy the bundles of factory selects / 2nds, they run just over $2 each.

Other good alternatives would be Oliva Serie G, Punch Rare Corojo, Sancho Panza double maduros and JR Ultimates. These are $3 and under (box price).

I wouldn't compare an Astral to either of those.... :nono:. There is some spice on the lips, but more like a lesser quality cigar.

I was wondering if the JR alternatives are good cigars or not, How are they?

And as far as these go, I DO have a few in my cooler that have been reesting for over 7 years. "Good" is a matter of taste, but they are very smokable.

I did the same thing. I enjoy a cameroon CAO and fuente and saw these in a CI package deal a few years back at a steal and figured, why not?. Ended up with a fiver. From my notes, first one was OK, maybe better than some. Second had an unpleasant after taste, hints of ivory soap. Third was similar and fourth was OK and I dont know what happened to the fifth. Used to be rare but many folks have cameroon in bundles now including 2 Guys in New Hampshire.

I agree with the Holts Fumadores and Old Henry for a good inexpensive every day cigar.

I dont mind Astrals for 'yard cigars' I had a box of some type of figurado that was OK, but I will say my usual yard cigars are either Gispert or Sancho Panza, I tried the famous 4000 series and had one bundle that was pretty good(for the price) and one that was so so...
