BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Infinitely frustrating, especially when they try and argue the point with you. Maybe link them to this thread (or send me their website and I'll send them a link lol). I had a guy once tell me just to use regular tap water when I bought a handful of 'water pillows' to throw in bombs or my travel humi. I started to mention using distilled and he cut me off mid sentence to reassure me that tap water was the way to go. Didn't buy any smokes from that establishment.
The lack of education among some people who work in cigar shops is both amazing and frustrating. I've learned the hard way to not try to bother pointing out clearly moldy sticks in my local B&M. Attempts to do so end up with the exact same line of garbage thrown at me about how its plume and its desirable and that I should pick some up. I do think part of it is owners and managers filling employees heads with crap because they don't want to throw out product that they can eventually sell to uneducated customers regardless of whether or not its moldy. Even pointing out the most obvious stuff like plume doesn't grow on the feet of cigars is dismissed quickly and I am promptly treated like an idiot with a rubber helmet on.
It was that one. Didn't want to call out the name of the place.
Dont feel bad for naming, you are helping out the community by warning to stay vigilant. You gave them a chance to learn but they didnt want to change.

Stopped by a different location last night. It's not real close to my house but is on my way home from work. Saw none of the issues above at this location and seemed like the had a little of things in stock. Saw about a half box of Jasons. Might pick one up to have for Halloween as I doubt I will find any of this years monsters.
Oh and if anyone wants a Jason or two let me know.

I equate asking most B&M staff questions about quality cigars as similar to asking a liquor store clerk which are the better wines he sells. Many folks are just paid to work and ring up orders. Kudos to the many stores that break this mold and hire people with knowledge and expertise. These are the shops, like Cigar King or Old Oaks, that I love to frequent as I learn something.

I have been pretty lucky, when I got into this hobby, I found my local B&M to be rather knowledgeable. I have gone to some that are around my job, and I feel I am the smartest in the room. But I have this joint to thank for that... So, thanks...
Coincidentally, after having a lengthy 2-day talk about plume on some HG a couple of months ago with the employee and the owner of my local B&M, resulting in them realizing that they had gotten some moldy sticks from 4K, last night the employee brought over a beautiful BHK56 covered in mold. Belonged to a customer whose assistant brought in his humidor because he suspected it was over-humidified and was worried about his sticks. To say the least! Not only was the BHK covered, the numerous Monte vitolas in there also were nearly ruined. No evidence on the foot, so I advised wiping them off and smoking them. Apparently they were using the 2 foam humi units that came with the box (a nice 150ct Prometheus) PLUS a glycerine pack, PLUS two Bovedas. When he showed me the foam units I nearly retched -- both of them were like mold gardens, totally spilling out with fuzzy green all over both screens. And yet, the employee was still coming to me asking if what was on the BHK was plume or mold. Sigh.
I advised thoroughly drying out, cleaning and re-seasoning the humi, TOSSING the foam units in the trash and sticking with 2 65% Bovedas from now until forever, and smoking those moldy sticks if he wanted to, but not to replace them in the humi after mold remediation.

I've given up on discussing it with employees at b&m if I see it now.... Just move on
