So I got a package yesterday from Jwintosh, that included a selection of 2008 releases he got from the convention last month in Vegas. Very cool, Most are for the troops in Iraq, but i wanted to smoke a couple that I had been considering over the past few months. Thank you Very much Jeff.
So as soon as I opend the box, the Bahia caught my eye, so I grabbed it, cut it, lit it. Since this may be the first 2008/2009 one of these reviewed or smoked by one of us i decided to review it no matter what the outcome.
The construction looked good, good looking band, and it had noticible viens, but nothing rediculous. It tasted good prelight, and produced plenty of smoke once lit. The burn was great all the way to the nub. Now the question is why I spent an hour nubbing this smoke.
Right off the bat this thing tasted musty. Like the smell of the dirt in a basement. I figured it would change in a minute so I kept going. Some pepper came and went really quickly, but the musty dirt flavor stayed from start to finish. I kept hoping for a change, and finally looked at the 1 inch nub in my hand and said "Thank God That's Over"
I was glad to sit outside an have a smoke and read a book Jwintosh gave me over a year ago, but I was constantly distracted by the taste of dirt.
I spent an entire summer in Alabama digging out a basement and hauling buckets of dirt. That smell will haunt me forever.
