Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
Very cool and typical govt right thereHis name was Al Schroeder. He worked on the Atlas II missile system. He also designed the cooling system for the Apollo lunar module. He designed the bomb bay baffles and the nose landing gear for the B-1. He said he was least proud of the B-1 work because they rushed it to make Reagan happy.
Several of they guys I work with worked with the B-1 in the Air Force. My boss was the senior NCO in charge of the bomb loaders when they brought it online. He told me once that during the Clinton years, they blew a tire landing at an air show in the midwest. They had no spares in the entire Air Force due to budget cuts so they had to run out to the flight line, jack a plane up, remove the tire and fly it to the disabled plane so that they could get it home.
Sometimes some stupid things happen. Although you would think the plane would set off some type of alarm that the gear is not down :dunno:I doubt one could forget to lower the landing gear. That's putting all there lives in jeopardy at the same time. Nice pics Drew!
We lost one of those out of Dyess because they set the terrain following autopilot at sea level and flew into a hill.
They crashed another one right outside of town due to a bird strike.
