Welcome to the true darkside, Tom.

Next time we'll need to hit Hudson Bar & Books. A very good menu, plus they have tasting flights. Carnegie Club has a a good selection of pedestrian single malts.

Macallan was a good first choice. Glennlivet or Glennfiddich would be fine as well.

I like Lagavulin but it's not for beginners. After Macallan I would steer you towards Oban (my favorite) and then some Islays. Good variety of peatiness there.
For Highlands, I really like Balvenie Doublewood. I like the Portwood but it's just a wee bit out of my price range.

MadAl,

My personal fav is the Balvenie 21 yr Portwood... It's a go-to, whenever I have the cash to spend. It's definately pricey, but once in a while I'll find it for a more reasonable (about or under $70 range) price.

Great choices ....

If you ever see Craggamore Distiller's Edition - drink it. Not huge fan of Craggamore in general but this bottle is superb. About $65-75 per bottle.

oohh, I do kinda like Cragganmore anyway. Have been to a number of Johnnie Walker Tastings...

What do you think of Cardu?

Just bought a bottle of Bowmore Darkest
I'm a fan of Cardu. I know alot of scotch drinkers that pass on it though. I believe they are the basis of the JW blends?

$36 and came with a glass
I just got back from the liquor store and they wanted like $40 for that scotch and I don't think it came with any glass. Which store did you go to? Maybe you could pick one up for me.

I ended up getting a bottle of the Dalmore cigar malt and its pretty damn tasty. :bottle:

I didn't have a beer listing at Mahagony's so I just picked a random Single-malt, glad I did!

Bought a bottle a couple of years ago when I was in Maine (can't find it here in PA). I liked it. After tasting it, I when to M. Jackson's book to read more about it and he indicated that they were trying to establish themselves as an "after dinner" scotch due to the heavier body. Don't know about that, but I liked it. Going to Maine again for Tday and hope to pick up a bottle or two (or three).

Got my bottle over the holiday. Found one of the deals that included the glass.

Found it to be very smooth.

Hey Todd...I've been onto Scotch for a couple of years now but was in the same boat as you where bourbon is concerned. A coworker recently recommended Maker's Mark so I picked up a bottle and I'm quite likin' it. For your consideration.

I've heard MM was pretty good from several people. I may pick up a bottle.
