You can look up an amortization calculator online to see the effects of extra payments. Early on in our mortgage we inherited some cash. Putting $10,000 on the pricipal of the loan saved $40,000 over the life of the loan. That's better than any stock pick I've made...

Interesting. I haven't heard of this. Will we still qualify for something like that even though we're buying a home now?
In PA. from what I read once you purchase your home ( has to be your primary ) you become eligible but you'll need to check and see if there is a wait time...it was for me here in Ga. We save about $1500 a year on our property taxes so your state may be different as to their laws...but they do have it there. I think its $300 in PA.,,,,which is better than nothing.
