When I first started smoking cigars, I was finding C.A.O. cigars pretty easily all over, and I had bought a bunch. Golds, Mx2, some other ones.
I had originally found the Gold a bit mild, but smooth and kind of tastey. It was a pleasant cigar for a noobie, and I quickly found I prefered it over some similar priced cigars I was seeing.
Yesterday, for my drive home, I had pulled one of these out of the Humi, and took it with me for the ride home smoke from work. It had been probably 2 months since the last one I tried.
First off, even if only 2 months, I do believe the cigar mellowed a little, with the flavor balanceing out and remaining more consitant through the entire smoke. Noteably also, the cigar burnt very evenly and had a relativly easy draw. Noting that I was smoking while driving with windows open, even burn I find is harder to come by than I hoped. Padron did it well, a few others, and this C.A.O Gold held it's own in the windy car.
The cigar was rather firm, and a little veiny, not ugly, but not the smoothest light skinned cigar I've seen either. The prelight aroma was faint, but pleasant.
The burn was pretty good in all the gold's I smoked. There was a bit of unevenness in the second third, but the cigar corrected itself and burned nicely the rest of the way.
The cigar ash held pretty well, building a long nice white ash, with a subtle but pleasant aroma.
Overall, I think it's a decent cigar, but as I smoke more and different cigar's, I find the gold to be a bit too mild for me to really get much fullfillment. It is still mellow and enjoyable, maybe more of a morning type smoke, rather than an end of day relaxer smoke. Not sure. The box price is low, so it's a decent value, but the latley I have found several cigars I would purchase over this one.
One thing I did note, that was good, was there was not much aftertaste, or stale feeling in my mouth afterwards.
In summary, I would recomend this cigar to a new smoker, or someone who likes a mild/light smoke.
