  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Can smell baccy through sealed tin?

Hey guys,
I bought a tin of Dunhill MM965 a few months back but am still not ready to open it up yet. It's the only tinned baccy that I have that I can actually smell the Latakia through the tin, it's making my whole storage bin smell. Does this mean the seal sucks and I should jar it up? I was hoping to leave it in the tin, but I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to know if the seal is shit or not. I imagine it is since I can smell it?

Likely bad seal, I've never been able to smell a baccy with the tin sealed.

It takes a good amount of force to open a properly sealed tin, did you try opening it with just your hands? If it opens, seals bad, smoke it up. If not, seal may be good and tin just had some stink stuck to it. Wipe with alcohol and put it back.

If all your tins are sealed, its not gonna cross contaminate.

Absolutely no doubt, it's a bad seal. You can open it and smoke it, or reseal it in a small jar, or you can simply take the tin as is and vacuum seal it, in a small food storage bag. I you trying to age it, I would do the vacuum seal thing.
