Can this be repaired?

looks like someone scratched a name into the pipe. Can these kind of scratches be sanded out and re-stained or filled and stained are there other options?

It looks like it can be sanded out, go easy on the heel, don’t sand out more than is absolutely necessary. I would probably sand it out polish it with the micro mesh and wax it without restaining it.

You know, that's an interesting thought. I've been looking at estate pipes and never thought too much about where the pipe has been. A name scratched into the briar kind of gives it a history. Not so sure how I feel about that.

Some pipes are for collecting some for just smoking. If you’ve not spent a fortune on that one I’d just smoke him

My original interest in this post was how to remove superficial scratches in the briar. A name crudely scratched into the pipe makes me wonder what stories this pipe could tell
