Ive been thinking of purchasing one of these 1911's for home protection/bedside companion.

im a big fan of springfield armories but kimber is very nice also.

i personally like the XD from springfield its fairly cheap and can handle anything.

Can't go wrong with Springfield. I have a 1911 that I like a lot although I prefer my Colt.

I really love my Kimber, but like Jason said, you can't go wrong either way.

Like everyone has said you can't go wrong with either one. As for the Taurus Judge .410 revolver metioned in djustices post the video is pretty impressive, I'd love to shoot one!

A couple of .410 rounds followed by a couple of 45 long colt and you wouldn't have to worry about anyone getting up!

Ive shot one and its a pretty fun gun. My buddy is having nothing but problems with his though. I need something I can also carry and if you've seen the size of the cylinder on that thing ....

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's not a gun you would want to conceal carry.

What kind of problems is your friend having? I'm kind of curious, you don't hear of too many problems with revolvers (at least not like with semi-auto's).

I would do the Kimber... Or a pump shotgun is always good too.. hehe.. Hearing the pump action in a quiet house is always stimulating.

The .410 shot fine but when he went to shoot the FMJ's very small pieces of the cylinder were flying off and hitting him in the face. It was the timming that needed adjusted.
