  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Car was rear ended today

Glad every one is OK, but you'll need to replace that ride. Given the cost of your last car I suggest checking craigslist.com for your surrounding area. You'll find many low priced for sale by owner autos there.

Thanks for all of the replies. Talked with an adjuster today. He told me to take it to a body shop for an estimate...before I could laugh at him, he stopped and then said "94 Colt, hmmm...based on the damage you described it will most likely be totalled. I'll have someone out to do an appraisal on Friday."
Guess I have to clean out the trash in the morning and hook up the air compressor and blow out the 1000 or cigars worth of ash from the interior.

Chances are I will be buying new. A new car was in the plan for sometime this summer anyway. Have been looking at the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, and Nissan Quest. Just need something that I can drive for 200K miles that gets 35+ mpg.
For the past 4 years, I have been commuting 125 miles round trip daily with no air conditioning and a single car speaker. The suffering must end

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad that you were not injured.

My wife was in an accident. 10 year old van that was 30K when bought new, now appraised for 4K. Good luck on the insurance.

I would definitely get an estimate from the auto body shop. Also I would be going after the other guy and his insurance company if he was clearly at fault.

Good luck,

Jeff

Well, insurance finally settled. Got $636.95 for the Colt. This was the second offer. I then asked, "And I get to keep the car?" They agreed, without deducting the $125 salvage value.
The car is still drivable and will be a backup for me. Plan to strap the canoe to it and be ready to go canoeing at a moments notice.
Bought an '07 Nissan Versa SL on Wednesday. Just in time for the 104 to 106 degrees this week. It's nice to get to work or home without needing a shower and change of clothes.

Now what cigar to smoke in it to break it in?

I'd suggest smoking one of the BEST sticks you have...you know, one of those "special occasion" sticks that you have a whole stack of but never enough occasions to smoke.

Congrats on the good insurance deal AND the new car!
