  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys,

My wife and I are going on a cruise next month, the Holiday out of Mobile. It will be our first one and I was wondering if any of you had been on this boat, I know it is an older smaller boat, but for us it should be great.

Also, what is their policy regarding smoking? Can I do it on deck, or only in a bar, or ???

Any thoughts? I think I am going to call them just to be sure, but thought I would pose the question here.

Thanks!
Hunter

I don't know anything about it, but my fiancee and I are talking about taking a similar trip. You'll have to report back about how it goes! They sure sound like a good time.

Check with the Passenger Services people when you get on the boat. Cruise line policies about smoking in general are "evolving". The last cruise the wife and I took (Celebrity Century, 5 nights from Miami) the cigar smoking rule was that they could be smoked "on the port side(left-hand when faced towards the pointy end) of the Sunset Lounge (outside, covered bar at the back of the boat) after 8PM". So the actual rules could be a wee bit confusing.

I just got back from a cruise on Celebrity. They had a cigar area outside in the evenings. I only smoked once though because I had a sore throat the first 4 days of our 5 day cruise. On the ship you could smoke cigarettes in certain locations, but only cigars in that one area.

Theres some cruise review sites that should have the info somewhere.

Oh yeah, try to bring some of your own booze, that can get expensive on board.
We were only allowed 2 bottles of wine supposedly. My uncle brought some clear rum in water bottles. So if you want to bring rum, gin, vodka that looks like water that would be the easiest. I ended up spending almost $20 one night on a double scotch. They automatically included 15% gratuity into all drink bills.

Yep we took a handle of Vodka in a Big Evian water battle just hanging right out my wife's purse as we walked through security. I hid multiple half pint and pint bottles through out my lugage. We also bough tequilla in mexico, but had to sneak it back on board under our shirts tucked into our belts. Plastic tops don't get caught in the metal detectors, so that is key when carrying on oppsed to checking it.

Bama, how was the trip? The wife and I are thinking about the three day cruise from Long Beach to Ensenada on the Carnival Paradise. Were there problems smoking on deck? Too bad only the suites have balconies!

I'll also have to figure out how to get my souvenirs back into the U.S.

I have done this cruise on the Royal carribean ship and loved it. We have done it twice. it's cool cause the ships sail next to each other for the whole trip. Maybe a mile apart. I have heard the Carnival boat for that cruise is a little like Circus Circus in vegas, while the Royal Caribbean boat is a little more refined in appearance. But I have never been on the carnival boat. I did not find anywhere to buy Cubans in Ensenada, ut I did not know where to look. Of course only buy them in an LCDH store, or you will get fakes. As far as smoking on deck, not a problem, just sit down wind or up high.

I went on the Paradise a few years ago (7 day Miami to Conzumel, Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Miami) and upon arrival, found out it was a "non-smoking" boat...I dont know if this has changed, but it almost ruined the trip...thank god for midnight pizza!!!

I've gone on a couple cruises with the fam, but they have been on princess cruise line. They are open to smoking on your balcony, some places on the deck, and most ships even have a cigar bar, but no smoking in the casino or very public areas.
But from what i could tell, a lot of carnival ships are non-smoking since they try to appeal to the young family and such market.

Trip was great, no problem smoking the stogies at the bar areas on deck. Cannot smoke one in the casino or any other bar. They had a cigar night one night on deck, it was funny to see some of these guys who had no clue what they were doing. They had some decent smokes for sale, but crazy prices.

I almost tried to bring back some goodies from Mexico, but decided against it. I of course, breezed through customs on the way home since I did not have anything.

The boat we were on is the smallest in the fleet, but they are constantly ranked best in service and I see why. The crew was outstanding, never hesitating to bring you what you asked and always helpful with any questions.
