Did you know the cigar band was introduced because in the middle of the 19th century wealthy smokers of Havanas found that stains from cigars were spoiling their white gloves?

I've read bands were first blank - they then realized it was an easy way to advertise their brand, and started printing their companies name on em'. Interesting, if true.
