  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone here a factory sales rep? Or own a cigar shop?

I've been thinking of changing careers, been in the banking business for a number of years, have made some money, live a nice life but just tired of the same stuff. I'm sure i would have to take a pay cut, unless I started my own retail location.

If you don't feel comfortable, send me a PM.

I was thinking the same thing. But Cal is too far of a drive.

Good Luck

If it was me, I'd move out of CA first. This is not the state you want to live in and start a tobacco shop.

Still, you might want to talk with Mark Just down at Tower Cigars in Sacramento for a real life opinion. He's a good guy and does visit the various cigar boards.

I am an investor in one in California. Tough to make a profit. I'm with Ted. Pick another state.

Cole,
With the tough anti-laws and out of sight taxes in CA, that's NOT the state to start in. On top of that, the Fed's pending SCHIP legislation (currently extended in it's current form 'till early 2009) WILL be back again; certainly if Clinton or Obama is elected, and even most likely if McCain is elected, and it looks like he's on his way to the nomination.

If you are not familiar with SCHIP, take a few minutes and read about it. Then think like a retailer and I promise it will absolutely scare the living daylights out of you. Most mom and pop B&M's will be wiped out. Only the large established ones with deep pockets and the internet guys who are already giving shit away will survive. The worst part about SCHIP, besides the tax increase, is the floor tax. Suppose you have $100,000 in wholesale inventory. The proposed tax is 53%. You will be forced to cut a check to the FEDs for $53,000 just for the pleasure of keeping your doors open.

Now getting into the business on the manufacturing side (such as a rep) might not be as risky and could provide the same change in lifestyle you're looking for.
