  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

A friend of mine has a subscription to Cigar Aficionado which I borrow and enjoy reading. He's thinking about canceling his subscription so I'm wondering if I should subscribe myself? What do ya'all think of Cigar Aficionado? What about Cigar Magazine or Smoke? Thanks.

I only ever bought two copies of CA. I don't like reading about the toys because I sure as shit will not ever be able to buy any of that stuff with in reason. Plus I don't play golf both copies I bought plus others I thought about buying all had golfing shit in them. It's not for me. Give me a cigar magazine that covers guns on the side or something. Hmm maybe I have something there?

I have a subscription to CA and I generally enjoy it. Even if I can't afford anything in the magazine, it's fun to look. And it's given me some good recommendations in the past, which makes it worth the price.

I like some of the articles about fancy toys I'll never be able to afford, but as another non-golfer, I agree that there's WAY too much golf-related stuff in there. This month they've got Tiger Woods on the cover, even though they concede that he isn't a cigar smoker.

If only working for a montly/bimonthly magazine actually got you paid I'd approach american handgunner about it. I'll try and get a federal job instead. To me while I spend a lot of money on cigars I don't spend $15,000 on a watch, or $1200 on a custom made pair of shoes.

I just got my first issue of Cigar Magazine. I enjoy the articles about different companies and makers. However i think the reviews are paid for, and I don't want a biased opinion. I play the "if I win the Lotto" game when it comes to the toys in there.

Even from my so far limited experience, I've learned not to trust the number ratings in any of the magazines. I read the descriptions to try to get an idea of if I'd like the cigar or not. Mostly looking for descriptions of problems with smoking the cigar and what the flavor is like. That's all I really need to know. Will I have problems trying to smoke it and will I like the taste?

I get Cigar Magazine but it's not too useful to me. I read a bit then hand them off to friends. I prefer ECCJ overall but no subscription yet. Used to get CA, and still find it entertaining.

I have two problems with Cigar Magazine. One major and one minor. The major is that when my subscription was up I didn't know about it. They sent me no renewal notice and I didn't realize it because it is quarterly. There articles are cool for cigar geeks, but to be honest I thought most of the stories were big snoozers. Also I would hardly read their ratings because most cigars they would rate I have no interest in and in some cases the number ratings didn't agree with the description!

The minor problem was I had a subscription since it started... it seemed like every issue since then they publish at least one letter comparing Cigar Magazine to cA. Recently, after not reading an issue for about a year (when I finally realize my subscription expired) I decided to pick one up at the local B&M just to see how the mag has evolved... and lo and behold they still publish letters that compare Cigar Magazine to cA!
