Quick question Whats a good scotch to drink and keep in stock when smoking? Im going to grab a bottle this weekend.

Can't go wrong with The Balvenie doublewood. Caol Ila is nice but sometimes an Islay is not for everyone.

If you look in my stash, the majority of them have been finished in Sherry casks. Something about the sherry finish goes well with with me & a cigar.

It really depends on your taste in malts and your taste in cigars. As much as I truly favor the peat monsters, they often aren't the best pairing with a lot of smokes. If I were to shop for something versatile, I'd likely go with the Glenlivet (pretty much any expression you feel like paying for), the Balvenie, or Glenmorangie. But I do like peat. I said that before, didn't I? I'm in the middle of a bottle of Ardbeg, which is fairly light to my taste and hasn't overpowered any of my regular smokes.

Oh...and what Indyrob said about sherry-finished malts. That touch of sweetness does the trick with a lot of smokes.

Ardbeg Uigeadail. The name is nigh unpronounceable, but I've yet to find a better smoking scotch. Probably the peat-iest (Yeah, that's a word) thing I've ever drank, but with a real sweet smoky finish. I suppose this is a result of it being aged in both bourbon and sherry casks. In my experience, its best paired with a fuller bodied cigar, not unlike the DPG Serie JJ I paired with two fingers of Ardbeg tonight.

My first single malt and it's still my favorite go-to! For $40.00 a bottle I don't believe you can go wrong with it.

Been drinking a lot of Auchentoshan Three Wood the last year or so.

Stay away from the Blended Scotch Whiskys like Johnny Walker and Dewars.

Get a nice Single Malt 12 years or older.

My favorite is The Macallan 15 or older.

You can't go wrong with most Sherry Cask Finished Single Malts

Still Glen Grant 10 year old for me or Ben Nevis 10 year old gives a nice subtle sweetness that goes well with a cigar.

DAYUM!!! Hell of a selection there. I just keep a bottle of Glenlivet around. I'm not a huge scotch fan but from time to time it's nice with a cigar.

I have questions to your question.

1) Are you currently a scotch drinkier?

yes: Then go for something bigger like the oban, tallisker or lagavulin​

No: Go for something a little smoother like the doublewood, Glen Livit or Macallan. 12&up is good, but some 10's suffice nicely. If you arent a scotch drinker I would wait a couple bottles before you go anything 15 & up. Gets really spendy at that point.​

2) Is this your first bottle purchase?

3) What kind of cigars do you like? I think a CT cigar gets almost fully wiped out by a scotch and really mild maduros do also. heavier cigars pair nicely.

CA has a irish whiskey and cigar pairing that was pretty entertining.

But basically it really depends on your tastes so :dunno:

One of the best Scotch and cigar pairings I have found is Glenmorangie's Quinta Ruban (Port cask finished) whisky with a rich, chocolate heavy maduro.

Another vote for Balvenie Doublewood. Its my favorite.

also Aberlour 12, 16 are worthy.

I have the Balvenie madeira 17 year. Mmm Mmm good:grin:
