CigarMedics handheld cigar humi sensor

Ok, so I bought this handheld humidity sensor tool to test the humidity inside my cigars. I like gadgets, and this looked like a good candidate. It has a fork probe that gets inserted into the foot or cut head and it gives you a digital readout of the humidity inside the cigar. I have found that my cigars have a slightly higher humidity at the head, which makes sense, since it is closed before it's cut, trapping more humidity.

It was a bit amusing for the first couple of sticks I tried it on. But...I have learned that I just don't care what the humidity level inside my cigars is (it's about the same as my humidor, imagine that). I started storing Cubans recently, so maybe it will come in handy later on.

It is accurate though. Comes with a little calibration tool.

Verdict: buyer's remorse.

I've always wanted to know how long it takes for a cigar to come to humidor humidity and if a cigar was left in a drier or wetter room how long it take to get out of your smokable range?

Too much of a pain in the neck to ask you to do the testing but the machine is cheap enough I could probably do it. How wide are the probes, will they fit into the foot of a corona without cracking the wrapper?

I think I saw it for $ 27 so i don't mind just having my own for the same reasons, Thanks though. You think you can test all the common vitolas? I assume you can insert into an end and you don't have to penetrate the wrapper to get a reading?

Yeah, it actually works really well. You insert the probes into the open foot and it gives you a reading. The probes are not thick enough to damage the tobacco. Then after you clip the head, you insert the probes into the cut head and it gives you another reading. No wrapper involvement. I haven't tried it on a lancero or petit corona, but I will and then post it here. The probes are 25mm (.98 in.) wide outer edge to outer edge. If a lancero is too narrow, perhaps inserting one of the two probes will still give an accurate reading. Stay tuned.

25 mm is pretty big not sure that will fit into the end of most of the cigars I smoke, will probably need to go through the wrapper but if the probes are so small shouldn't make much of a difference

I have one and really enjoy it. I’ll use it on stuff that’s right off the truck to see if it’s smokeable.

From the pic I would thing the probes are closer to 10 mm wide for a 38 rg lance? That will work for me Thanks for posting

I get an initial reading from mine then it keeps dropping and ends up quite a bit lower than the initial reading. I’m not sure what the accurate reading is. Does this happen with yours as well?

I wait until it levels out and whatever that number is, that’s what i go with.

Are the final readings about what you expect and are they reproducible?

They are. It will start at say 72, then drop quickly to 69 let’s say and immediate after that hold for the final number for say 6 seconds, that’s the final number i use. I don’t really check anything in my humidor that’s been there for weeks or years. I use this for new purchases from shops, or something that comes in the mail. I have yet to find anything from the shops i go to that’s remotely smokeable immediately. Everything is 73+ at the foot. More moisture is near the cap end so unless it reads sub 70 at the foot, I’m not smoking it. 66% at the foot seems to be money.

The display light will go dark when the final reading is set. The humidity percentage remains, but the light goes dark. The width of the prongs is 11mm.
