  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I was listening to Russ Oulette of P&C give a presentation and he discussed that he smokes both and it surprises a lot of pipers he runs into at pipe shows. He said he enjoys both and it keeps his palette alive. I found this very interesting because I feel and have experience the exact same thing. When I don't have time to smoke cigars it seems the pipe blends I regularly smoke become more muted day after day. If I have an occasional cigar and then have one of my regulars its very "fresh" again. Anyone else have this experience? If not give it a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Just another reason I will always smoke both although cigars are much, much less frequent for me.

I have a more of a cigar guy for years but recently picked up the pipe again. I prefer to have a pipe in the morning and a cigar in the evening. Just works better that way as I have my pipe on the to and from work and my cigar in the evening to relax.

I have noticed that smoking a pipe earlier in the day enhances my evening cigar experience.

I smoke Cigar in the AM most times and then Pipe through out the day. More then just a couple. There are only a few days that I pass the Cigar in the AM and will pick it up mid afternoon. Used to the only smoke a pipe or two a day and smoke cigars all day but with what I liked to smoke or could get my hands on at the time local had proved to be to costly lol. In 2012 I changed over to 1 a day cigar 5 days a week at times could be more or less and then many many pipes in the day.

I have found that with Stress I smoke less. i don't know why but when I am stressed out I just don't find smoking anything enjoyable event.

Ive always had trouble picking out flavors in cigars but since I started smoking pipes I've been able to pick up flavors alot more. The first pipe I had I was blown away at what I was tasting so I stuck to pipes for a couple months. Had a cigar a couple weeks ago that I had smoked before an was able to pick out alot more tastes in it.

I really enjoy both as well. The flavors and even the rituals with each are very different yet very satisfying as well. I switch up depending on my mood and time constraints. Certainly plan to enjoy both sides of the leaf for a long time to come!

I, too, have one foot firmly planted on both sides. Love my cigars but have also been bit hard by the pipe bug. Two completely experiences for me and I am usually in the mood for one or the other.

Both, though recently it's been a bit pipe heavy. If I smoke too many bowls, especially of different blends, my palate is also fried. I smoke a cigar on the way to and from Pipe Club in part for this reason. I had several bowls and my palate felt like licking asphalt. Lit up a 2014 shark and I was slammed in the face with a deeper baking spice flavor than I've ever had in an Anejo... Amazing. I was in shit traffic and it was still enjoyable. I wish I could have worked in a nightcap bowl this evening but it was not in the cards... Ha.
