Couple questions

What are you favorite brands of scotch and do you pair each brand with a particular type of cigar? Do you drink it neat or on the rocks? Do you have a specific glass that you use?

Currently I have two bottles of The Balvenie One Single Barrel and one Double Barrel.

Maybe use a format like this

Scotch: Cigar:
Scotch: Cigar:

Right now my new favorite might be the balvenie 12yr single barrel (I like it more than the 15 yr single barrel)! Tons of fruit and bourbonesque notes with a sweet syrupy finish. The 12yr single barrel pairs well with Opus X, padron 85th natural, Tatuaje Broadleaf, and R&J Short Churchills.

Favorite Scotches are:
Imperial
Oban
Laphroaig

I pick whatever cigar I have a desire to smoke, but would consider staying away from the Islay if I want to smoke something mild.

I drink it neat unless the bottle is cask strength and then I would taste it un-diluted and then dilute with maybe a teaspoon of water.

The balvanie is great for steaks. I like to pour a little on a couple hours before i throw them on the grill.

Scotch: The Peat Monster (nice balance blend of Islay and Highland)
Cigar: LFD Double Ligero Chisel

Most peaty spirits with a ligero-laden dominican stick works for me. If prefer rum and bourbon with Nicar cigars.

Honestly, I prefer peaty, single-malt scotch, and I'm growing to like more nuanced cigars. What this means is that generally speaking, the scotch I like way overpowers the cigar I'm smoking, so I very rarely drink scotch with my cigars.

If I do, it's going to be a highland or a blend, that's got a smoother, gentler balance to it.

Scotch is my go to drink with my cigars. The balvenie double wood is ideal. My standard scotch is Glenlevit 12 yr. the 18 is a step up. But if you can afford it, for 150.00 the 21yr is a must try. Once a year I snap and grab a bottle. Pair that with a Padron 40th maduro. It doesn't get much better than that. The 21 is so much darker than the 12 or 18, but so smooth. Words can't describe.

Sounds like right in my wheelhouse. Love the doublewood.

Can't say I pair scotch with cigars though, usually bourbon or rum or plain old water.

A lot of Balvenie drinkers here, my fav too. I usually pair Balvenie 18 w/ med cigars.
If you like Balvenie, give Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or a try, aged in Sauterne casks imparting a mild honey sweetness to it.
Off topic, but also a nice Cognac falls into this category.

For the heavier sticks I prefer Highland Park 18 or Mac.

AND can't go wrong with port, goes with anything.

I was talking an owner of a cigar shop that I started visiting, Out of all the cigar shops I've been to this place has to be the friendliest place I've been to. I've been to two events and every time all the customers there have introduced themselves. I have not encountered this in any other place.

Back to the topic. He didn't like to drink while he smoked he said that the flavor of the alcohol overpowers the flavor of the cigar. I can see his point. I've mostly had cigars with mojitos, so I'm gonna have a few cigars with scotch and see what I notice. I guess it also depends on each persons pallet.

One instance I've noticed wheere I really lose on the flavor experience is higher proofed drinks. Other than that I experience more of a marrying of flavors than an over powering.
