OK I now have my first coffee press.
http://www.bodumusa.com/shop/line.a...SLT=&mscssid=6QWC0D3JUH269G574UXS4MQBSTH15BT1

I made my first pot this morning and it was great. The instructions say 1 rounded scoop for every 4 oz cup, so I did 9 scoops for a stronger cup this morning. My wife will also like to drink some too but she does not like very strong coffee so what is a good medium for a good cup of coffee for the both of us.

Also I am sure she might want to make a pot of flavored coffee sometime but I do not like it, will the taste linger in the container for my pots as well.

Any other advice anyone could give would be awesome.

Thanks,

Moro

For the lingering taste, just put warm water with baking soda and "prepare" a cup, so it absorbs the smells.

If you wash the press well you should be fine. Just be careful of the ones that say dishwasher safe because I broke my last press that way. It was too close to something else and the carafe wound up cracked. I have a "unbreakable" one now but am waiting to trade it in for a bigger 12 cup glass job.

Yep, coarse grind to reduce the 'mud' in the cup. Soap and water and a good rinse should get rid of the flavor residue. That's another of the nice things about press pots. Unlike many drip coffee machines they are easy to take apart and clean well.

Only way to go if you got the time!. Two drops of bleach, rinse with warm water and you're always good to go no matter what you steep in the press!

Definitely use coursely ground beans, as there is more surface space for the water to pass over, providing more flavor. The press is a great, and fun way to make strong coffee! Of course try Black Dog, but Peet's Coffee is pretty damn good, too.

Bodum has always been may choice when it comes to a press, World Market sells them for a good price and they usually have two or three different sized ones in stock.

I ordered a french press 2 days ago online. I'd been looking at them for some time. Also ordered an electric water heater from Bodum. My last thing I need will be a burr grinder. I know my blade grinder won't give me an even grind, but I'm limiting my sailor spending this month.

I strongly recommend the Cuisinart Burr Grinder, you can get it at Kohl's for under $50.00.
