Hey guys, I'm testing the water (*ba-dump-bump*) about the possibility of not one, but two fishing herfs ...
First off, I want to get some of the brothers that came out last year back, as well as any other brothers that are interested, for some fly fishing here in Colorado. If you guys are interested please speak up - as far as dates go I'm pretty well wide-open, and we'll try and get some more diverse locations planned than last year. Everyone, I think, had a great time, and I'd love to see it become an annual event.
if you are not a fly fisherman or don't own any gear ... don't sweat it. I know a guy.
On another, possibly grander note, I have booked a some trips this season to Rancho Leonero Fishing Lodge in Baja Mexico, for bluewater fishing trips.
I have a week, August 22nd to 29th, reserved. I thought I'd toss this one out to ANY brothers, fly fishermen or not, who are interested in some seriously world-class bluewater fishing at a seriously lowball price.
I'll run the deal down real fast, and provide more information if anyone is interested.
The trip consists of seven nights' lodging, six days' fishing. Lodging is two guests per room, in an ocean-view bungalow with private bath and air conditioning. Meals are included in the cost of the trip. The fishing will be done out of 25- to 27-foot "super pangas" that take 2 anglers each. They're big, wide, comfortable boats, that can get you all over for great inshore action. You're not going 60 miles out in one, but you also don't need to - I've caught dorado 200 yards from shore here.
The fishing is exceptional. Let's be clear: It's going to be HOT. ... this is about the hottest time of the year down there. When you're on the water, though, you really won't notice it too much. But the heat is what makes the fishing so damn good. There's about 3 dozen species of saltwater gamefish in massive numbers down there at that time of year. Roosterfish, jack crevalle, dorado (mahi mahi for you islanders, dolphinfish for you easterners), yellowfin tuna, sierra mackerel, 3 species of trevally, wahoo, black skipjack, striped marlin, broadbilled swordfish, you name it.
I'll be fly fishing, because, well, that's what I do. But for the light-tackle angler this will be a ball - and you will probably fish circles around me, if we start keeping score.
Fishing is great off the beach, so the day's angling does not have to end when your 8 hours in the boat does. I will be fishing after dark, personally.
If you want to try your hand with a fly rod for some of these species, I will carry extras, backups, etc. I will be happy to teach anyone that's interested how to throw the big rods.
Included in this trip is: all lodging, all meals, 6 days of fishing aboard the pangas, license and all applicable taxes.
What's NOT included is: airfare to Cabo San Lucas, shuttle to/from the airport (about $30 round trip), liquor (this could bankrupt some of you:hysterica -- but seriously, we'll stop at a liquor store on the way down and kit up), and guide/staff gratuities. Also, they'll buy bait from the locals each morning, if you wish to use live bait or throw chum (I'll buy some myself to throw at the schools of dorado to hold them in close enough to drop a fly).
This is an AWESOME trip.
$1,395 per person. It doesn't get cheaper than this. The big black and blue marlin aren't in in great numbers this time of year, but for sheer tonnage of gamefish this is about the best week of the year. I may be able to cut that price down if you want to get a lower-end room (they have some rooms that sleep up to four if a few brothers wanted to pile in) - I can see what I can do.
So, two trips. I definitely want to talk about the Colorado thing, and am open to doing it whenever the brothers are interested ... but if any of you actually have some MONEY you want to spend (chyeah, right), would love to see a few of you on that Baja trip! Let me know!
