I don't know anything about the rules/laws/regulations but with the carrying in a vehicle aspect. States in red do not mandate that person have a license for the weapon?

My state sucks.....Ironic though, one of the leading proponents for the law in Washington DC capped some kid with an unregistered handgun for pool hopping in his backyard. link.....unbelievable.

In MD you can transport a firearm in its own case/unloaded and with the ammo in a closed container, away from the firearm without a permit...

So if I live in MD, I could carry your gun in that manner even though I don't have a permit?

In Georgia we usually leave 'em on the dashboard for easy access. J/K I think the law is without a permit you can carry loaded firearm in glovebox/similar. With firearm permit you can keep anywhere inside vehicle. http://www.packing.org/ is an excellent site for checking on specific states and states that have reciprocity with your permit. Keep in mind that these type sites are not the final word and the Law is whatever the Judge says the Law is so don't take any website as gospel. If you're really concerned check with the state authoritie in which you'll be travelling with.

Indeed, packing.org is a great resourse! Excellent advice about checking on your own though to verify. Unfortunately, good intent is not a defense if you get sideways with the local LEO's.

Wow, I had no idea there were actually states that denied the right to carry 100%. Todd, NE just got crossed off my list of states where I'd live bro, sorry. And WI, I had no idea!
